Job Overview: Responsible for performing advanced, diversified and confidential legal support duties for SMSC Tribal Government. This position will be responsible for high-level matter management, including assisting the Deputy General Legal Counsel in receiving, delegating, prioritizing, and monitoring legal tasks; assisting with governance tasks, including Board minutes, resolutions, and presentations; conducting independent legal research and analysis; and performing special projects. This position will also provide general administrative support such as responding to legal inquiries and correspondence and filing legal documents.
Create Your Path: The Work Youll Do:
- Provides high level administrative support to the SMSC Tribal Government legal Team, including development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of a formal matter management system.
- Receives, delegates, prioritizes, and monitors legal tasks with oversight from the Deputy General Legal Counsel.
- Conducts independent research and analysis. Review legal documents and forms.
- Assist with Tribal Business Counsel and Gaming Enterprise Board of Director minutes, resolutions, and presentations.
- Maintains attorney calendars and assures that complete information is available for all matters.
- Collaborates with internal clients throughout the organization to ensure legal matters are resolved promptly and effectively.
- Maintains and files Tribal Government legal records.
Job Requirements:
- Four-year college degree.
- Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program preferred.
- 5+ years of Paralegal experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and virtual meeting software; comfortable navigating multiple databases and systems.
- Ability to read, draft, analyze, and interpret common statutes and caselaw, legal documents, and
pleadings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form with all levels of management.
- Detail-oriented, good problem-solving skills and organization skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
within time constraints. Project management experience preferred.
- Ability to build partnerships and collaborate across the organization.
