Westerner Park is proud to host World Junior Hockey from December 26, 2026, to January 2, 2027, at the Marchant Crane Centrium. This exciting international event will bring world-class junior hockey to Red Deer and put our community on the international stage.

We are recruiting Cash Office Clerks to join our event team and help deliver an exceptional experience throughout this major event. These are temporary positions for approximately 10 days.

Position Overview

The Cash Office Clerk is responsible for providing day-to-day support for the Cash Office and related event operations at Westerner Park. The role counts and verifies cashouts, prepares event floats, balances large volumes of cash, and ensures cash is securely stored, distributed, and received according to established procedures. The Cash Office Clerk provides customer service and assistance to staff regarding cash office processes and related inquiries and performs related duties as directed by the Cash Office Event Lead and Accounting Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager and the Cash Office Event Lead, the Cash Office Clerk is responsible for the following:

Cash Receiving and Reconciliation

- Retrieve cash drops, count cash, and reconcile totals against receipts and supporting records.

- Record and investigate server overages and shortages.

- Resolve cash discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues to the Accounting Manager or Cash Office Event Lead.

Safe, Float, and Deposit Control

- Verify safe balances at the beginning and end of each shift.

- Complete and submit the safe count report to the Accounting Manager or Cash Office Event Lead.

- Prepare funds for deposit and coordinate biweekly Brinks pickups.

- Count and prepare floats for outlets and the Tickets Alberta Office.

- Control and monitor keys for concession and bar locations.

Electronic Transaction Reconciliation

- Verify and reconcile credit card transactions.

- Investigate and report electronic payment discrepancies.

- Reconcile electronic transaction totals against system reports and supporting records.

Event Support

- Provide cash change and receipt paper services during events and within required timeframes.

- Respond to operational cash office needs during events.

- Support the secure distribution, receipt, and movement of cash and floats.

- Provide customer service and assistance to staff regarding cash office processes and related inquiries.

- Perform related duties as assigned to support Westerner Park events.

Reporting, Training, and Administration

- Complete and submit required cash office and reconciliation reports.

- Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls, and departmental practices.

- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the Accounting Department and Westerner Park events.

What You’ll Bring

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is considered an asset.

- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in cash handling, cash reconciliation, bookkeeping, accounting support, data entry, or a related field.

- Minimum 1–2 years of customer service experience.

- Strong numerical, cash-handling, and basic reconciliation skills.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and financial reporting systems or tools.

- Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

- Ability to remain organized, accurate, and focused in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.

- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required to support Westerner Park operations and events.
