About this role

Job Description The Mechanical Test Engineer is responsible for supporting new product development programs by delivering product design verification. This role requires close interaction with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and program management. Responsibilities

- Manage and complete design verification activities for multiple new product development programs.
- Develop a project plan for design verification based on program scope, including deliverables, timelines, and resource needs.
- Identify, ideate, and oversee the development of novel engineering test methods and fixtures.
- Oversee the development of verification plans, protocols, and reports.
- Peer-review and provide feedback on team deliverables for technical soundness and audit-readiness.
- Oversee technical and schedule communication with internal and external partners to efficiently manage and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with test engineers, design engineers, and cross-functional teams to analyze product test failures and recommend solutions.
- Provide critical updates to management.
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in applicable technical standards for medical device development.
- Identify and implement improvements to the verification test system through standardization, tools, and automation.
- Ensure deliverables comply with applicable regulatory standards.
- Follow quality management system and documentation practices.
- Ensure completion of tasks within the project schedule with high attention to detail.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in engineering (mechanical, mechatronics, or similar); Advanced degree preferred.
- P.Eng from the EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain a P.Eng license required.
- 8+ years of test/design/systems engineering experience in a product development environment, particularly within medical device R&D.
- Strong analytical foundation using engineering principles for problem-solving during new product development.
- Hands-on experience developing and qualifying engineering test methods and tools.
- Hands-on experience with developing electromechanical systems and root cause analysis.
- Experience managing and delivering design verification in a highly regulated industry.
- Experience using project planning tools and concepts.
- Experience using statistical techniques, preferably using Minitab.
- Proficient in writing concisely and accurately with meticulous attention to detail and clarity.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for a cross-functional environment.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines with transparent communication.
- Familiarity with CAD tools and microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino); hands-on experience preferred.
- Familiarity with medical device applicable technical and regulatory standards; hands-on experience preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with requirements management and issue tracking tools preferred.
- For applicants without an Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineer license, an alternative title will be used until a license is obtained.
- Support for job-related professional growth and development, including reimbursements for expenses incurred in joining the EGBC.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Vancouver,BC.
