Position Summary

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing all aspects of meat department operations, including merchandising, production, inventory management, food safety, customer service, and associate development. This position helps ensure the department operates efficiently, maintains high-quality standards, achieves sales and profit goals, and delivers an exceptional shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations

- Assist in managing daily meat department operations.

- Ensure fresh meat, seafood, and value-added products are properly stocked, displayed, and rotated.

- Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the department.

- Support production planning and execution to meet customer demand.

- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked sales cases and preparation areas.

Team Leadership

- Assist with training, coaching, and developing meat department associates.

- Provide daily direction and support to team members.

- Promote a positive and productive work environment focused on teamwork and customer service.

- Serve as department leader in the Meat Manager's absence.

- Assist with performance management and accountability initiatives.

Customer Service

- Deliver exceptional customer service and build customer loyalty.

- Assist customers with product selection, cooking recommendations, and special orders.

- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.

- Promote department programs, seasonal offerings, and value-added products.

Food Safety and Compliance

- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and workplace safety regulations.

- Monitor proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of all products.

- Verify associates follow food safety and sanitation procedures.

- Maintain department readiness for company audits and regulatory inspections.

Inventory and Financial Management

- Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control.

- Monitor shrink, gross profit, labor, and sales performance.

- Support labor scheduling and workforce planning efforts.

- Help achieve department sales and profitability goals.

- Assist in minimizing waste through proper production and inventory practices.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Previous meat department, food service, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.

- Strong customer service and leadership skills.

- Knowledge of meat cutting, merchandising, and inventory management preferred.

- Basic math, communication, and computer skills.

- Food safety certification may be required based on company policy.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.

- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive hand movements.

- Ability to safely operate department equipment, including slicers, saws, grinders, and wrapping equipment.

- Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
