The Senior Accountant / Senior Client Staff Accountant is responsible for managing key aspects of the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of client entities while delivering exceptional client service. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable interacting with clients and internal teams to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of accounting services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and maintain all aspects of the full accounting cycle for assigned clients.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare financial statements and related reports in accordance with client requirements.
- Analyze financial information and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual transactions.
- Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders regarding accounting matters, deliverables, and information requests.
- Support managers and senior team members with client engagements and special projects.
- Participate in four-eye review processes and assist in maintaining quality standards across client deliverables.
- Support payroll reconciliations and other recurring accounting processes.
- Assist with year-end financial statement preparation and coordinate with tax teams to provide information required for tax compliance and filings.
- Support annual 1099 processing and other compliance-related activities.
- Maintain and update client standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist with onboarding and informal coaching of junior accounting staff by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, client requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and supporting documentation.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a client accounting, public accounting, or professional services environment.
- Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle and accrual-based accounting.
- Experience preparing financial statements and month-end close deliverables.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar ERP platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting or outsourced accounting experience.
- Experience working with multiple client entities and deadlines.
- Exposure to payroll, sales tax, 1099 reporting, and year-end accounting processes.
- CPA progress or CPA designation is a plus.
