Role Summary:
The Senior Enterprise Architect provides architecture leadership across the full Enterprise Engineering Platforms organization, including Engineering Experience, Cloud Delivery and Engineering, Data Engineering, CloudForge Platform, Enterprise AI Backbone enablement, and the GDS Night Shift program. The role establishes target-state direction across these interconnected capabilities and ensures that portfolio decisions converge on coherent, reusable enterprise platforms.
This architect serves as the senior technical partner to the Enterprise Engineering Platforms organization leader and represents the organization in enterprise architecture, AI governance, security, data, and cross-business technology decisions. The role operates beyond any single product or director organization, resolving cross-portfolio concerns and translating enterprise strategy into executable architecture direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the target-state architecture, principles, roadmaps, and decision framework for Enterprise Engineering Platforms and its major cross-organizational capabilities.
- Provide architecture leadership for Enterprise AI Backbone and GDS Night Shift, including governed agent runtimes, gateways, registries, identity and access, observability, context and data access, evaluation, security, and production operating patterns.
- Connect software delivery, public cloud, container runtimes, integration runtimes, engineering experience, data products, and AI capabilities into a coherent engineering platform, CloudForge, serving both human and machine experiences.
- Identify cross-portfolio dependencies, resolve conflicting architecture direction, and drive decisions that optimize enterprise outcomes rather than individual products.
- Establish reusable patterns and guardrails that accelerate adoption while meeting security, resiliency, compliance, data, and operational requirements.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture, GCS, business technology organizations, Product, Engineering, and strategic vendors to align investments and implementation direction.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and build-versus-buy options through focused experimentation, measurable outcomes, and explicit risk and economic tradeoffs.
- Guide architecture governance and ensure significant decisions are documented, communicated, and translated into funded roadmaps and engineering deliverables.
- Coach portfolio architects, solution engineers, and technical leaders, increasing architecture capability and reducing dependency on a single expert.
- Represent Enterprise Engineering Platforms in executive, enterprise architecture, and external technology forums with clear recommendations and credible technical narratives.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated success leading architecture across multiple technology portfolios, organizations, or enterprise platforms.
- Deep knowledge of public cloud architecture, platform engineering, software delivery, distributed systems, integration patterns, security, resiliency, and operational practices.
- Strong working knowledge of enterprise AI and agentic architecture, including model access, orchestration, tool integration, identity, data and context, observability, evaluation, and governance.
- Ability to translate business and enterprise strategy into target architectures, sequenced roadmaps, investment priorities, and actionable engineering direction.
- Proven judgment balancing speed, innovation, cost, risk, security, compliance, reliability, and long-term platform sustainability.
- Experience influencing senior leaders, architects, product leaders, and engineering teams across organizational boundaries without relying solely on direct authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including architecture decision records, strategy documents, executive presentations, and technical facilitation.
- Ability to simplify complex systems, identify the few decisions that matter most, and move groups from competing perspectives to an aligned direction.
- Experience developing reusable enterprise patterns while allowing appropriate domain autonomy and incremental adoption.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Architecture experience with AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Experience with internal developer platforms, cloud and container runtimes, API and event platforms, engineering metadata, knowledge graphs, and AI-ready data.
- Experience designing production AI governance, guardrails, progressive authorization, auditability, and human-in-the-loop operating models.
- Experience leading architecture for highly available Tier 0-Tier 2 platforms and regulated enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated participation in enterprise architecture, responsible AI, security, or technology governance forums.
Leadership Capabilities:
- Enterprise thinking: optimizes for Liberty-wide outcomes and understands the organizational, financial, and operational consequences of architecture decisions.
- Strategic clarity: creates a compelling target state while defining practical intermediate steps that teams can execute.
- Collaborative influence: brings deep expertise without ego, actively considers diverse viewpoints, and builds durable alignment.
- Decisiveness: makes informed decisions at the appropriate time and avoids allowing analysis or governance to become unnecessary delay.
- Talent multiplication: delegates effectively, develops other technical leaders, and builds scalable architecture practices.
- Accountability: remains engaged through delivery and verifies that architecture direction produces measurable outcomes.
What Success Looks Like:
- Enterprise Engineering Platforms operates from a clearly understood target architecture and sequenced roadmap across engineering experience, delivery, data, runtimes, cloud, and AI.
- Enterprise AI Backbone and GDS Night Shift move from lighthouse delivery toward a secure, reusable production platform with clear ownership and governance.
- Cross-portfolio decisions are made faster, with fewer duplicated capabilities, inconsistent standards, and late integration issues.
- Architecture direction is visible in funded priorities, product specifications, engineering delivery, and measurable platform outcomes.
- Portfolio architects and technical leaders operate with greater independence because enterprise patterns, boundaries, and decision rights are clear.
Additional Information:
This role requires collaboration across organizational boundaries and may include periodic travel for planning, architecture, and stakeholder working sessions. The successful candidate will operate in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve as enterprise strategy, technology capabilities, and customer needs change.
