About this role

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer (CNC) Job Description The Manufacturing Engineer (CNC) develops, edits, and optimizes CNC programs for Mazak machines using Mazatrol/MazaCAM to support both new part introductions and ongoing production. This role troubleshoots machining and programming issues, improves toolpaths and tooling strategies, and collaborates closely with machinists to ensure high-quality, efficient, and reliable CNC machining processes in a well-established industrial gearing environment. Responsibilities

- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for Mazak CNC machines using Mazatrol and MazaCAM to support new product introductions and ongoing production requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues on CNC equipment, refining toolpaths, selecting appropriate tooling, and optimizing feeds and speeds to improve cycle time, part quality, and overall machining efficiency.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and detailed part specifications to ensure components consistently meet tolerance, dimensional, and quality requirements.
- Support CNC setups and manufacturing processes by providing clear technical guidance to machinists and operators and ensuring that programs and tooling are correctly implemented.
- Work directly with machinists and CNC operators on the shop floor to prove out new and revised programs, resolve production issues, and drive continuous improvement in CNC machining processes.
- Specify and/or design tooling required to produce parts efficiently and reliably, ensuring compatibility with Mazak CNC machines and existing processes.
- Develop and maintain complete documentation for NC and CNC programs, including setup sheets, process instructions, and revision histories.
- Specify and/or design gauging and inspection methods, including determining inspection frequency and measurement techniques to verify product quality.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing processes to reduce cost and lead time and improve quality and reliability.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline CNC operations, eliminate waste, and enhance overall production flow.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support long-term projects in the industrial gearing industry, including work on critical projects supporting naval applications.
- Independently run CNC machines when needed, demonstrating hands-on capability to set up, operate, and validate machining processes.
- Contribute to the modernization of manufacturing processes that have been in place for decades by introducing updated methods, tooling, and programming practices.

Essential Skills

- At least 5 years of experience programming CNC equipment, with a strong focus on production environments.
- Hands-on experience with Mazatrol and MazaCAM for Mazak CNC machines.
- Experience in manufacturing or process engineering with direct involvement in CNC machining operations.
- Practical experience applying lean manufacturing principles to improve processes and reduce waste.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Creo for tooling, fixture, or component design.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and detailed part specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for machining, tooling, and CNC programming issues.
- Capability to work directly with machinists and operators to prove out programs and resolve production challenges.
- Experience specifying or designing tooling and gauging for CNC machining applications.
- Ability to develop, maintain, and organize documentation for NC and CNC programs and related processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree, preferably in mechanical engineering.
- Experience in industrial gearing or similar heavy manufacturing industries.
- Exposure to long-term, complex manufacturing projects supporting critical industrial or defense applications.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly integrate into established manufacturing environments and drive process improvements.
- Comfort working with processes and equipment that have been in place for many years while introducing modern techniques and best practices.

Work Environment The role is primarily office-based, with most of the workday spent in an engineering or programming office environment. The facility is a well-established manufacturing operation. You will work with Mazak CNC machines, Mazatrol/MazaCAM programming tools, and CAD software such as SolidWorks and Creo.
