About the Gender Clinic

The Monash Health Gender Clinic is Australia's longest-established gender service, providing statewide care for transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) people. Our multidisciplinary team delivers gender-affirming care, peer support, education and advocacy, while working to improve access and outcomes for TGDNB communities. This role works within a collaborative team of peer workers, psychology, psychiatry, social work, speech pathology, endocrinology and administration professionals.

About the Role

Join our team as a Consumer Peer Worker Level 4 on a part-time (0.8 EFT, 4 days a week), ongoing basis at the Monash Health Gender Clinic, located within the Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda.

Drawing on your lived experience as a trans, gender diverse or non-binary person, you will provide intentional peer support to consumers accessing the Gender Clinic and contribute to a supportive, recovery-oriented service. In this role, you will:

- Provide one-to-one peer support using lived experience and Intentional Peer Support principles.

- Support consumers to navigate health, community and LGBTQIA+ services.

- Promote self-advocacy, wellbeing and informed decision-making.

- Facilitate peer-led groups and contribute lived experience perspectives across the service.

- Support and mentor other peer workers and contribute to a positive team culture.

- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support consumer-centred care.

This role involves a combination of in-person and telehealth service delivery, with occasional travel to other Monash Health and LGBTQIA+ service locations.

About You

You understand the power of lived experience and the difference it can make when someone feels genuinely heard, understood and supported. Drawing on your own experiences as a trans, gender diverse or non-binary person, you are passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces where people feel empowered to make informed decisions about their health, wellbeing and future.

You are someone who builds meaningful connections, listens without judgement and understands that everyone's journey is different. You enjoy supporting others to find their voice, navigate challenges and access the services and support that are right for them.

As an experienced Peer Worker, you are confident sharing your lived experience with purpose, supporting others in their recovery and contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment. To thrive in this role, you will bring:

- Lived experience as a trans, gender diverse or non-binary person, with an understanding of navigating gender affirmation services.

- Experience working in a designated peer worker or lived experience role within health or community services.

- A strong understanding of Intentional Peer Support principles and recovery-oriented practice.

- A genuine passion for advocacy, inclusion and empowering others.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting, respectful relationships.

- Confidence supporting people to navigate services, understand their options and advocate for their needs.

- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Essential requirements:

- Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training.

- A minimum of two years' experience working in a designated lived experience role.

- Working towards a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or a similar qualification is desirable.
