Software Engineer, Marketing Technology | IC2
This position is considered hybrid , allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Glasgow office locations and should expect to be in office 3 days a week.
The Marketing Technology team connects customer interactions on our websites with the data and tools that support relevant customer engagement. In this role, you will build the web integrations, consent handling, event tracking, and data pipelines that make those capabilities work. Your contributions will directly enable Sonos to deliver more personalised, data-informed customer experiences — reducing dependencies on other web teams and improving how quickly the business can act on marketing technology needs.
What You'll Do
- Implement and maintain marketing scripts and SDKs, including initialization, consent checks, and responses to changes in customer consent preferences.
- Make targeted JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js changes that enable consent collection, preference management, event tracking, and marketing activation.
- Instrument page views, navigation, forms, and customer interactions; validate event schemas and troubleshoot missing, duplicate, or inaccurate events.
- Build and support integrations between the website, Chord, Braze, OneTrust, and related services using APIs, webhooks, and established integration patterns.
- Develop SQL and dbt models that turn customer and event data into reliable datasets for engagement and personalisation.
- Support reverse ETL pipelines that deliver customer data from Snowflake to downstream tools such as Braze.
- Test consent behaviour, browser compatibility, data accuracy, and the performance impact of marketing integrations.
- Participate in code review, documentation, testing, deployment, and production troubleshooting; coordinate with Web Platform and web product teams when changes affect shared infrastructure or experiences.
What You'll Need
Basic Qualifications
- Hands-on software engineering experience through professional work or equivalent practical experience, with a track record of delivering and supporting scoped changes.
- Working proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL.
- Experience with React or a comparable web framework, and an understanding of how browser code interacts with server-rendered applications.
- Experience building or troubleshooting REST API integrations and working with Git, debugging tools, and automated tests.
- Familiarity with browser events, cookies, consent states, and the importance of accurate customer data.
- Qualified applicants must be able to work from the Glasgow office 3 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Next.js, Google Tag Manager, Chord, Braze, or OneTrust.
- Exposure to Snowflake, dbt, Census, or comparable customer data and reverse ETL tools.
- Exposure to AI coding tools such as Claude, Codex, or equivalent.
- Experience with consent-aware tracking, event instrumentation, or marketing technology integrations.
