The Role:
Would you like to help shape how new development delivers the schools, transport and other vital infrastructure that communities across Hampshire need? Join a high-performing local authority team whose work brings in at least £30 million each year from developers to support sustainable growth across the county.
Hampshire County Council’s Spatial Planning service is seeking an Assistant Planner to join our busy Spatial Strategy and Insights Team. This is far more than a routine administrative role: you will work at the intersection of planning, finance and law, supporting the monitoring and enforcement of Section 106 agreements linked to housing and commercial development across Hampshire. You will handle financial information, communicate with developers, local planning authorities and colleagues across the County Council, and help turn legal obligations into real benefits for communities. For more information about a career in planning, please see About Planning - RTPI.
Please see the candidate pack linked below to discover more about the role, the team and the difference you could help us make.
What you’ll do:
You will play an important part in managing developer contributions and travel plan work across the county. Your work will include handling and analysing data, coordinating customer enquiries and team tasks, issuing invoices for contributions and fees ranging from thousands to millions of pounds, and communicating with developers, housebuilders, local planning authorities and teams across the County Council. It is an ideal opportunity to build practical experience of how infrastructure is planned, funded and delivered.
You will help developers understand and fulfil a range of legal obligations, including making payments, meeting travel plan requirements and submitting compliance information. You will also help maintain accurate records, monitor progress and ensure enquiries are directed and resolved effectively.
A strong starting point for a career in planning: this role offers a valuable route into the wider Spatial Planning service and the County Council. You will gain transferable skills, awareness of different professional disciplines and an understanding of work taking place across the department. Career paths are not always linear: colleagues often broaden their experience by moving between teams as opportunities arise, building varied and rewarding careers within the organisation.
What we’re looking for:
You do not need to arrive with detailed knowledge of Section 106 agreements or travel plans. With training and support from experienced developer obligations and travel plan officers, you will develop the specialist knowledge needed to succeed. We are looking for someone who is organised, motivated and keen to learn, with strong attention to detail, confidence using IT and a commitment to providing a helpful, professional service. The role is advertised as full-time, but we are also happy to consider part-time and flexible working arrangements.
If this sparks your interest, and you think you might be the person we're looking for, please see the contact details below.
Please refer to the candidate pack for any specific qualification and experience requirements.
