Summary of Position
The Service Continuity & Disaster Recovery Manager owns and leads the global IT service continuity and disaster recovery framework. The role ensures that business-critical applications and supporting technology services have documented, risk-based and testable recovery arrangements aligned with business requirements, regulatory expectations and operational priorities.
Working closely with Business Application Owners, infrastructure and operations teams, cybersecurity, quality, risk and third-party providers, the position establishes the recovery governance, application-level continuity status, testing roadmap and evidence required to demonstrate readiness and drive continuous improvement.
Essential Functions
- Service Continuity and DR Governance
Define, maintain and continuously improve the IT Service Continuity and Disaster Recovery policy, framework, standards, governance model and operating procedures.
- Establish clear roles for application and technical owners, infrastructure teams, vendors and test participants, ensuring recovery documentation and evidence remain controlled, current, auditable and aligned with quality, security, risk and GxP requirements.
Application Continuity Inventory and Status
- Identify all in-scope business applications and technology services requiring continuity and disaster recovery coverage, and maintain a consolidated register of ownership, criticality, dependencies, recovery requirements and capability, test status, gaps, remediation actions and readiness.
- Facilitate reviews with Business Application Owners to validate business impact, recovery priorities, RTO, RPO, minimum service levels and recovery sequencing, and provide transparent status reporting, risk escalation and decision support to IT and business leadership.
DR Documentation and Templates
- Own the standard Disaster Recovery plan template and guidance, ensuring each application or service has an approved, usable plan covering prerequisites, dependencies, contacts, recovery and validation steps, fallback arrangements, communications and evidence retention.
- Define standard templates for test scenarios, objectives, schedules, execution records, issue logs, results, lessons learned and remediation tracking.
DR Test Strategy, Scenarios and Objectives
- Design realistic, risk-based Disaster Recovery test scenarios for applications, platforms, infrastructure, locations and third-party services.
- Coordinate with Business Application Owners and technical teams to define scope, assumptions, success criteria, responsibilities, recovery sequence and evidence requirements, ensuring tests validate technical recovery and business service restoration.
Testing Roadmap and Schedule
- Define and manage a multi-year roadmap and annual schedules for risk-based DR and service continuity testing, prioritising critical services, overdue tests, major changes, new applications, significant incidents and regulatory commitments.
- Coordinate resources, environments, maintenance windows, vendors, communications and approvals; monitor delivery against plans, resolve conflicts and escalate delays or unmitigated risks.
Test Execution, Results and Improvement
- Lead or coordinate tabletop, technical recovery, application recovery and end-to-end business service continuity exercises, documenting recovery times, data recovery, deviations, failures, control gaps, operational observations and business validation evidence.
- Issue formal test reports covering conclusions, readiness, lessons learned and corrective actions with owners and target dates; track remediation to closure, verify improvements and update plans, scenarios and future test objectives.
Stakeholder, Audit and Supplier Management
- Build effective relationships with Business Application Owners and communicate continuity risks, requirements and decisions clearly, while providing training, awareness and practical guidance to owners, technical teams and test participants.
- Support audits, inspections and risk reviews with accurate plans, schedules, results, status and remediation evidence, and assess third-party continuity capabilities, contractual commitments, test participation and evidence quality.
