The Opportunity
Are you a proactive IT professional who loves solving hands on technical challenges and keeping systems running seamlessly?
As our IT Systems Administrator, you’ll be the go to technical expert for The Boundary’s New Zealand operations. Reporting directly to the CTO in NZ while collaborating with our global IT team, you will take full ownership of local infrastructure, support and hardware reliability.
This is a high-impact, individual contributor role where you will operate with autonomy - ensuring our team works securely and efficiently, managing the local IT budget, and keeping our tech stack up to date.
---
What You'll Do
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Network & Infrastructure Operations: Keep local server, network (LAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, firewalls), and virtualisation environments running smoothly while managing backups, storage health, and disaster recovery readiness in line with global standards.
- End-User Support & Hardware Lifecycle: Deliver end to end technical support for New Zealand employees, taking full ownership of local helpdesk requests and managing the setup, maintenance, repair, and disposal of workstations and hardware.
- Identity, Access & Security Administration: Administer user onboarding/offboarding across Microsoft and Google Workspace environments while strictly applying least-privilege access, endpoint protection, routine patching, and proactive threat escalation.
- Render & Creative IT Infrastructure: Collaborate with technical artists to maintain and troubleshoot render nodes and underlying production IT infrastructure to ensure high-performance reliability for creative workflows.
- Budgeting, Procurement & Asset Management: Build and track the NZ IT budget, source vendor quotes, manage equipment purchasing and software licenses, and maintain complete records of local assets, warranties, and supplier agreements.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Create clear technical documentation and user self-help guides, deliver smooth IT onboarding for new hires, and continuously refine local systems in alignment with global IT guidelines.
---
What You'll Bring
- Practical Experience: Proven hands-on capability in supporting Windows workstations, networks, servers, and shared storage, with a strong track record of diagnosing hardware/software faults and seeing issues through to resolution.
- Core Technical Stack: Working knowledge of Windows and Windows Server, Microsoft administration (Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune), Google Workspace, and core networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching, Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewalls).
- Systems & Security Hygiene: Practical experience managing shared storage permissions, backup monitoring, routine patching, endpoint security controls, and asset/license record keeping.
- Problem-Solving & Mindset: An independent, methodical approach to troubleshooting with the sound judgment to recognise risks, document findings, turn recurring issues into workflow improvements, and escalate when appropriate.
- Clear Communication: Ability to communicate patiently and clearly with both technical colleagues and non-technical staff - explaining progress, options, and solutions without unnecessary jargon.
- Delivery & Operational Skills: Strong organisational skills to prioritise competing support requests, coordinate supplier services, and prepare clear budget forecasts and purchasing recommendations.
- Qualifications: Relevant IT qualifications or certifications are a bonus, but practical capability and reliable judgment matter most.
- Bonus Knowledge: Familiarity with Nasuni, Perforce, Hyper-V, AWS exposure, Thinkbox Deadline, creative applications, or basic scripting is an advantage, but not essential.
