About this role

The Fabrication Rigger is responsible for safely carrying out rigging, lifting, shifting, positioning, alignment, and installation activities associated with fabricated steel structures, piping spools, pressure vessels, tanks, skids, and other oil and gas equipment.

The role involves working with rigging supervisors, crane operators, fabricators, welders, fitters, and QA/QC personnel to ensure that all lifting and handling activities are performed according to approved lifting plans, risk assessments, method statements, and applicable project requirements.

3. Key Responsibilities
A. Rigging and Lifting Operations
Perform rigging activities for lifting, shifting, loading, unloading, and positioning fabricated materials and equipment.
Handle piping spools, structural steel members, pipe supports, equipment skids, tanks, vessels, and other fabricated components.
Select appropriate slings, shackles, hooks, lifting beams, spreader beams, and other rigging accessories according to the approved lifting plan.
Verify the identification, working load limit (WLL), safe working load (SWL), certification, and inspection status of rigging equipment before use.
Inspect wire-rope slings, web slings, chain slings, shackles, hooks, and lifting accessories for visible damage, deformation, wear, cuts, broken wires, and other defects.
Ensure that the lifting capacity of the crane and rigging accessories is suitable for the load, including the effects of sling angles and load distribution.
Attach and secure loads using approved lifting points and appropriate rigging configurations.
Ensure proper load balance, stability, and center of gravity before lifting.
Use standard hand signals or approved radio communication to guide crane operators.
Maintain safe clearance from suspended loads, pinch points, overhead obstructions, and nearby personnel.
Guide loads during lifting and lowering using taglines where appropriate and permitted by the lifting procedure.
Prevent swinging, uncontrolled rotation, sudden movement, and impact during load transfer.
Ensure that no person stands or works beneath a suspended load.
Stop the lifting operation immediately if unsafe conditions, equipment defects, poor visibility, or communication failures occur.
B. Fabrication Yard Activities
Support fabrication teams during the movement and positioning of fabricated components.
Assist in the handling of carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and other project-specified materials.
Rig piping spools, structural assemblies, pipe racks, support frames, and prefabricated modules for fit-up and welding activities.
Assist in positioning and aligning fabricated items using approved lifting and handling methods.
Support the loading and unloading of fabricated materials onto trucks, trailers, transporters, and storage areas.
Ensure that materials are properly supported on suitable sleepers, racks, or supports after unloading.
Protect flange faces, machined surfaces, instrument connections, and other sensitive components during handling.
Use suitable softeners, padding, and protective materials to prevent sling damage to coated, stainless steel, or finished surfaces.
Assist in the safe movement of materials between cutting, fit-up, welding, inspection, painting, and dispatch areas.
Ensure that fabricated components are not subjected to unauthorized dragging, impact, or excessive bending during handling.
C. Piping and Mechanical Equipment Handling
Perform rigging activities for prefabricated piping spools, elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, and valve assemblies.
Support the positioning of piping spools for fit-up, erection, and installation.
Assist with the movement and placement of pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, tanks, and other mechanical equipment when assigned and authorized.
Follow approved lifting points and manufacturer recommendations for equipment handling.
Ensure that lifting arrangements do not damage nozzles, instrument connections, flange faces, insulation, or protective coatings.
Coordinate with fitters and mechanical technicians during equipment positioning and installation.
