About this role
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description
This Mechanical Engineer role offers the opportunity to wear multiple hats across the full product lifecycle, from reamping existing designs and developing new products to creating tools and ensuring proper implementation of mechanical solutions throughout a new product line. You will own products from concept through completion, contribute to cuttingedge applications such as aerospace, drones, cable systems, and a new eye scanner for security, and play a key role in cost analysis and supply chain decisions in a fastpaced, entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support new product development projects, taking mechanical designs from initial concept through to completion and production readiness.
- Reamp and improve existing mechanical designs to enhance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Design and develop tools and fixtures required for manufacturing and product implementation, ensuring they meet functional and safety requirements.
- Work across the new product line to ensure proper implementation of mechanical designs, collaborating closely with hardware, electrical, and embedded engineering teams.
- Perform structural analysis and apply GD&T principles to ensure robust, highquality mechanical designs that meet performance and tolerance requirements.
- Outsource mechanical parts as needed and conduct cost analysis to determine when custom parts are justified versus standard components.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to support sourcing strategies, manufacturability considerations, and costeffective production solutions.
- Apply mechanical design best practices within a manufacturing environment, ensuring designs are practical, scalable, and aligned with production capabilities.
- Contribute to product development and applications engineering by tailoring mechanical solutions to specific use cases such as aerospace, drones, cable wires, and security devices.
- Incorporate feedback from crossfunctional stakeholders, respond constructively to design reviews, and iterate on designs based on technical and business input.
- Participate actively in a fastpaced, entrepreneurial team culture, taking ownership of projects and driving them forward with minimal supervision.
- Document designs, analyses, and design decisions clearly to support knowledge sharing and future product iterations.
Essential Skills
- 46 years of experience in new product development, focusing on mechanical engineering solutions.
- 6+ years of experience in new product design, including ownership of mechanical components and systems.
- 5+ years of experience taking projects from concept to completion, including design, validation, and handoff to manufacturing.
- 23 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, with familiarity in production processes and constraints.
- Proficiency with Creo / Creo Parametric, with at least a 6/10 minimum skill level and approximately 7/10 proficiency overall.
- Strong experience with mechanical design in a manufacturing context, including consideration of materials, tolerances, and assembly.
- Demonstrated experience in tool design and implementation for manufacturing and product support.
- Solid understanding of new product development (NPD) processes, including design iterations, testing, and release.
- Experience performing cost analysis for mechanical components and assemblies, including makeversusbuy decisions and custom versus standard parts.
- Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced environment and manage multiple projects or responsibilities simultaneously.
- Strong structural analysis skills, with approximately 8/10 proficiency, and robust knowledge of GD&T for precise mechanical tolerancing.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in a professional manner and incorporate input into design improvements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with product development and applications engineering, especially in areas such as aerospace, drones, cable systems, and security devices.
- Exposure to supply chain considerations related to mechanical components and manufacturing.
- Electronic packaging experience is a plus but not required.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a strong sense of ownership over products and projects.
- Comfort working in a collaborative, crossdisciplinary engineering environment that includes hardware, electrical, and embedded teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across different engineering disciplines.
- Adaptability to changing product requirements and openness to innovation in tools, processes, and design approaches.
Work Environment
You will work onsite full time, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as part of a team of five other mechanical engineers within a broader group of approximately 30 engineers spanning hardware, electrical, and embedded disciplines. The environment is flexible, collaborative, and fastpaced, with a culture that values a "work hard, play hard" mindset, including team happy hours and access to an indoor golf simulator. The office is located in a downtown area close to restaurants and amenities. You will primarily use modern engineering tools and technologies such as Creo / Creo Parametric for mechanical design, and you will be involved in projects related to aerospace, drones, cable wires, and a new eye scanner for security. Dress code is typical professional casual office attire suitable for an engineering and office setting.
