About this role
Job Title: Master Scheduler Job Description
The Master Scheduler oversees integrated production scheduling across multiple product lines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role builds and maintains rate-based production schedules, aligns hardware and resource allocation with customer and internal requirements, and proactively mitigates schedule risks. The Master Scheduler partners closely with production, supply chain, and leadership teams to ensure on-time delivery, efficient use of shared resources, and continuous improvement of planning processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead integrated production scheduling across all product lines, including defining need dates for all parts, projecting long-term operational requirements, and determining associated staffing needs based on lead times.
- Create and maintain a rate-based production schedule for each build, clearly defining and tracking constraints that impact throughput and delivery.
- Leverage the production schedule to develop and present various scenarios that optimize hardware and resource allocation between product lines while balancing customer needs, internal rate goals, and readiness requirements.
- Collaborate with the production team to set, track, and execute daily and weekly goals for each work center, incorporating personnel and physical resource constraints while supporting overall rate targets.
- Identify risks to the production plan and communicate them clearly, recommending mitigation strategies to maintain schedule integrity.
- Manage the scheduling and prioritization of production resources that are shared across product lines, actively negotiating with the leadership team to establish optimal priorities.
- Use ERP/MRP systems to identify hardware shortages for upcoming builds and lead efforts to define creative solutions that allow builds to progress around shortages whenever possible.
- Conduct work-center level capacity analysis to reduce near-term and future schedule risk, identifying gaps in models and communication that lead to schedule slips.
- Lead reactive and proactive initiatives to mitigate schedule risks, improve planning accuracy, and strengthen coordination across teams.
- Drive root-cause analysis on issues discovered during product builds and develop permanent resolutions to eliminate internal and external blockers to on-time delivery.
- Facilitate conversations and alignment around assembly-level and integration-level misalignments, ensuring that schedules reflect realistic build and integration timelines.
- Support executive leadership with operational planning and forecasting by providing clear, data-driven insights into capacity, constraints, and schedule performance.
- Work to map and define process requirements and help build standardized processes across shared resources to improve consistency and efficiency.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- At least 3+ years of experience in manufacturing scheduling, production planning, or operations.
- Hands-on experience using ERP/MRP systems in a production environment.
- Strong production planning and schedule planning capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple product lines and constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to lead integrated production scheduling and coordinate cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using planning tools and computer applications to manage schedules and data in a manufacturing context.
- Ability to identify and analyze capacity constraints and schedule risks at the work-center level.
- Experience conducting root-cause analysis and implementing permanent corrective actions to improve schedule performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in startup or high-growth manufacturing environments.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external supplier and customer relationships in a fast-paced, evolving manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting executive leadership with operational planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
- Technical skills in coding and computer applications such as MS Office Suite, VBA, Smartsheet, SQL, Confluence, JIRA, and Power BI.
- Ability to map process requirements and design standard processes across shared resources to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to gain stakeholder buy-in on scheduling decisions and resource allocations.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to inform scheduling decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
