About this role

At Meta Reality Labs, our goal is to explore, innovate and design the hardware for the next generation of AI glasses, wearables, and virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The mission of the battery team is to develop power sources for the devices that enable these experiences.

We are looking for a motivated Battery Cell Engineering Intern to join our team. In this role, you will work with our cell engineers to understand how and why lithium-ion battery cells age, with a focus on storage degradation. The exact project scope will be tailored to your background and interests. Your work will shape how we qualify cells for future wearable devices, helping them last longer and perform reliably throughout their life. This internship combines hands-on lab work, AI-assisted data analysis, and collaboration across battery engineering teams.

Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Analyze long-term cell test data to identify degradation trends and insights
Design and run cell-level experiments to understand how and why cells degrade
Use AI tools to speed up and improve data analysis
Recommend improvements to how we test and qualify cells
Work with cross-functional battery teams and present findings and recommendations

Qualifications

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Ph.D. degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, or related field, with a focus on battery technology
Hands-on experience with battery testing and characterization
Knowledge of Li-ion cell chemistry and electrochemistry
Interpersonal skills and experience working effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship Research experience in battery aging or degradation
Hands-on experience using AI tools (such as coding assistants or agents) to speed up research or engineering work
