About this role
The Metrology Specialist, Gap & Flush and Closures will own the daily dimensional measurement of vehicle fit and finish within the dimensional engineering group. The successful candidate will program and operate laser and vision gap and flush equipment, measure seal gaps, striker-to-latch alignment and door closing effort, and run the daily control plan as their primary responsibility. The role is hands-on and fast-moving: the candidate keeps the measurement equipment running, keeps a clean and consistent flow of data into CM4D, and works relentlessly with supporting groups to make sure parts are available to measure so the control plan is never blocked. It is fundamental that the candidate can create and teach measurement programs on laser equipment rather than only run them, perform the Measurement System Analysis studies these gauges require, and resolve equipment and part-supply issues quickly on the floor.
Run the daily dimensional control plan, executing scheduled gap and flush, seal-gap, striker-to-latch alignment, and door closing-effort measurements across closures and BIW, and ensuring complete, clean data is available on time for daily reporting Create, program, teach, and optimize measurement programs on laser and vision gap and flush equipment (Eines guns), including feature definition, nominals, tolerances, and alignment for new and revised parts Measure door and closure closing effort with a speed gauge and seal-gap compression, and interpret results against engineering targets Perform and maintain required Measurement System Analysis studies (Gage R&R, bias, linearity, and stability), keeping them current as parts, programs, and equipment change Partner with CM4D technicians to sustain clean, consistent data flow into CM4D by validating feature naming, filters, nominals, and tolerances, and confirming data arrives complete and on time Own maintenance, calibration, spare readiness, and purchase-order tracking for measurement equipment (Eines guns, speed gauges, fixtures, and related hardware) to maximize uptime and prevent measurement interruptions Resolve part-availability issues quickly with supporting groups, train others on programs, equipment, MSA, and data handling, and support Engineering on measurement strategy, correlation, and root-cause investigation for closures fit and finish
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical metrology or dimensional role, or equivalent; closures and BIW fit-and-finish experience strongly preferred Required experience creating and programming laser or vision gap and flush measurement equipment; Eines guns experience strongly preferred, including the ability to build and teach programs rather than only operate them Hands-on experience required measuring gap and flush, seal gaps, striker-to-latch alignment, and door closing effort (speed gauge) Required experience performing Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R, bias, linearity, and stability) on dimensional gauging Working knowledge of CM4D and the measurement-to-report data flow, with the ability to collaborate with CM4D technicians to keep data clean and consistent; SQL, Python, or equivalent scripting for data validation is an asset Required experience interpreting GD&T part drawings to ASME Y14.5 or ISO 1101 (including datum reference frames, profile, and position), and working knowledge of SPC (Cp, Cpk, percent in-tolerance) and how to read dimensional trends Experience maintaining and calibrating measurement equipment and managing spares, purchase orders, and backup readiness to protect uptime; strong cross-functional problem-solving skills and a sense of urgency; ability to train and mentor other technicians; experience with Nikon laser radar, Perceptron, Hexagon, or Eines systems in BIW and closures is an asset Essential Physical Demands
