About this role

Are you someone who enjoys getting beneath the surface of
financial data, working out what has happened and finding a solution?

We’re looking for a General Ledger Assistant to
join our customer-focused General Ledger team at NHS SBS. You’ll take ownership
of an allocation of NHS clients, preparing and reviewing balance sheet control
accounts and helping to ensure their month-end processes run smoothly.

This is a perm role where your analytical mindset will
really matter. Rather than simply identifying an issue, you’ll investigate the
detail, understand the root cause and work with clients and colleagues to reach
a solution. You’ll also work directly with your clients through monthly calls,
discussing reconciliations and resolving queries.

You'll typically manage around six to seven clients, with the
workload varying according to client complexity. The role requires attendance
at the Leeds office twice a month, normally on the first and tenth working days
of the month, although bear in mind these can change each month, plus occasional
additional meetings and training as required. During your first month of
training, you’ll be expected in the office three days per week.

What you'll be doing:

- Prepare
monthly Interim and Final Reconciliation Packs, investigate aged items and
review reconciliations to identify and correct errors.
- Prepare
payroll deduction pay overs and review and approve allocated Tax, NI and
Pension payments.
- Run
reports, extract and analyse data, and investigate issues to identify root
causes, preventative measures and appropriate solutions.
- Own
client queries and monthly client calls, while overseeing the Generic
Mailbox to ensure queries are resolved and filed promptly.
- Review
and approve journals, complete ledger period reopening, extension and
early close requests, and carry out scheduled Bankline approvals.
- Monitor
workloads and KPIs, lead regular workload meetings, and support Year End,
client onboarding and exits, mergers and process improvements.

What you’ll bring:

- An
understanding of basic accounting principles, practices and terminology,
gained through relevant work experience or by working towards AAT.
- The
ability to process and analyse complex numerical data.
- An
analytical and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to dig into
detail, investigate issues and identify practical solutions.
- Strong
spreadsheet, Microsoft Word and wider Microsoft Office skills.
- The
ability to use your initiative, exercise sound judgement and prioritise
workloads to meet agreed timescales.
- Strong
interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information,
build effective client relationships and coach or mentor junior team
members.

It would be great if you had:

- A
strong understanding of a relevant ERP system, such as Oracle.
- PowerPoint
skills.
- A
flexible approach to your work.

If you’re interested in this role but not sure if your
skills and experience are exactly what we’re looking for, please do apply, we’d
love to hear from you!
