About this role

Description

Are you passionate about building software that makes a meaningful difference for millions of customers? Amazon is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join our team and help design, build, and operate systems that power experiences at unprecedented scale. In this role, you will tackle complex technical problems, deliver high-quality software across the full development lifecycle, and collaborate with talented engineers to create solutions that are reliable, maintainable, and built to evolve. If you thrive on turning ambiguity into clarity and want your work to have real customer impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement software solutions that address complex business and technical challenges, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance across major components of your team's systems.
- Contribute across the full software development lifecycle — from product definition and scoping through design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing operations — delivering incremental, high-quality results.
- Write clean, well-documented code and participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates and coaching others on engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional engineering teams to understand customer needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging tools and approaches, including generative AI capabilities, to identify opportunities for improving productivity, software quality, and team processes.

A day in the life
You'll start your day reviewing operational metrics and addressing any issues surfaced overnight, then shift into focused development work on features or improvements for your team's systems. Expect to participate in design discussions, pair with teammates on tricky problems, and mentor newer engineers through code reviews. You'll regularly connect with product managers to refine requirements and ensure what you're building aligns with customer needs. Whether you're refactoring a critical service or prototyping a new approach, you'll see the direct impact of your contributions.

About the team
Our team is focused on building and operating software that directly supports Amazon's customers at scale. We value collaboration, technical rigor, and a commitment to getting better every day. You'll work alongside engineers who care about writing great software and solving problems the right way. We're investing in new technologies and approaches to keep our systems ahead of growing demands, and you'll have a voice in shaping that direction. If you're looking for a team where your ideas matter and your growth is supported, this is the place for you.
