Job Description
MSX International’s warranty support program provides analytical and technical support to Hyundai Motor America (HMA) to help monitor warranty performance, identify emerging vehicle concerns, and support informed decisions on repair quality and warranty costs. Based on-site at HMA headquarters in Fountain Valley, California, the program brings together warranty analysis, vehicle repair information, and cross-functional collaboration to support product quality and customer satisfaction.
The Warranty Analyst contributes by investigating warranty and goodwill claims, analyzing expense and repair trends, and reviewing vehicle buyback cases to identify and document the defective causal parts or conditions associated with repurchase.
Position Summary
Do you enjoy connecting the dots between vehicle repair records, warranty data, and the technical issues behind them? Are you detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated to turn complex information into actionable findings?
At MSX International, we’re looking for a Warranty Analyst to support HMA’s warranty group through data analysis, technical case review, and accurate documentation. You’ll evaluate warranty and goodwill performance, investigate unusual claim patterns, and collaborate with Quality Engineers and internal stakeholders to identify areas requiring further review.
You’ll also support vehicle buyback analysis by reviewing repair histories and related records to identify and document the initial and final defective causal parts and/or conditions that led to vehicle repurchase under applicable lemon laws.
This on-site, hourly role offers direct collaboration with warranty, quality, and engineering teams at HMA headquarters, providing exposure to automotive operations and opportunities for professional development.
As a member of the warranty support team, you’ll:
- Analyze warranty expenses and prepare monthly comparisons against forecasts, prior-month results, and prior-year performance.
- Evaluate warranty performance by model and model year, including total costs, units in operation, failure rates, and cost per claim.
- Review powertrain warranty expenses, including coverage under HMA’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
- Analyze quarterly cost-per-unit trends by month in service, including failure rates, claim costs, and labor operation codes across warranty, goodwill, and campaign repairs.
- Identify significant cost variances, emerging concerns, and unusual claim patterns; communicate findings and recommend further investigation.
- Monitor goodwill expenses, support forecasting, and identify campaign-related costs and dealers with high expenses and low customer satisfaction results.
- Analyze warranty repair data alongside technician training records to identify potential relationships between training gaps and repeat repairs.
- Review dealer use of labor operation codes and warranty repairs, coordinating with Regional Warranty Managers when excessive or unusual activity requires investigation.
- Conduct repair-sequence and repair-narrative analyses to assess dealer repair efficiency and potential effects on vehicle quality.
- Review vehicle buyback repair records, service orders, and customer communications to identify the initial and final defective causal parts and/or conditions associated with repurchase.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers and internal departments to clarify technical findings and accurately document buyback conclusions.
- Enter and maintain warranty, claim, and buyback findings in designated internal systems.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and ad hoc analyses for management.
- Participate in training and product-information exchanges; travel, including overnight stays, may be required for up to four weeks annually.
- Support occasional vehicle testing, service coordination, and other related assignments as directed.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of automotive repair procedures, diagnostic methods, and vehicle systems.
- Ability to interpret repair orders, warranty claims, service histories, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to analyze warranty costs, failure rates, claim trends, and forecast variances.
- Strong data-entry accuracy and documentation practices.
Desired Skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and root-cause investigation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail when reviewing technical records and documenting findings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain analytical findings clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong organization, prioritization, multitasking, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to collaborate with client personnel, dealership staff, engineers, and warranty teams.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency is a plus.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in automotive repair and product quality.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and develop clear findings and recommendations.
- Strong computer proficiency, including database querying and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four-year degree in engineering.
- Dealership fixed operations and warranty experience.
