CBC News is creating a fresh, expanded approach to our financial and consumer storytelling. We’re looking for an exceptional strategic leader and accomplished journalist to drive the change.
Affordability remains top of mind for most Canadians. Purchasing power is being squeezed by inflation and tariff policies. Young people are struggling to land that first job at a time when artificial intelligence and technology are changing the workforce. Canadians are faced with a myriad of complex economic realities. As Executive Producer, you’ll be overseeing an editorial team that goes beyond the facts to help Canadians understand how the story affects them and what they can do.
We’re looking for a leader who is excited to show up to work knowing anything can happen on their watch, thrives when news breaks, and is at their best when navigating change.
Reporting to the Director, Journalism, CBC Money, you’ll be transforming workflow processes and launching new initiatives focused on cost-of-living reporting across text, video and audio platforms, with a focus on mobile and streaming.
You have a keen understanding of legal risk management and are a stickler for details, ensuring the factual accuracy of our reporting before any story is published or makes it to air, including verification of user-generated content. You’re the person on the front-line upholding the CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices and our core principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity.
You are curious, creative, and collaborative, constantly at the forefront of changing technologies and industry trends. You’ll work with the leadership team to develop new forms of financial and consumer storytelling including a new daily show. Your decisions are driven by audience needs, and you’re constantly searching for new voices and new perspectives, especially from groups typically underrepresented in financial and consumer coverage.
A strategic thinker, you are able to set direction and delegate, and you’ll also roll up your sleeves to do the hard work. Organizational skills are key as you balance daily demands with longer-term projects, including those you initiate.
Data excites you. You use charts, graphs and explainers to provide clarity and context in our storytelling. You’re constantly analyzing our journalism to ensure we are providing a variety of perspectives to better reflect our audience and meet their daily financial needs.
You excel at team leadership, guiding your colleagues so they can do their best work everyday. You are naturally collaborative, skilled at providing feedback, navigating conflict and change, breaking down silos and championing team success. You are a mentor at heart, deeply vested in developing a representative and inclusive culture.
This role requires full-time on-site presence in Toronto, Ontario.
Your Responsibilities:
- Oversee the team and spearhead the development of our new content strategy.
- Provide editorial oversight to ensure our content is original, relevant, and impactful, and elevates a range of voices and consumer perspectives.

- Oversee staffing and scheduling decisions.
- Identify and develop emerging talent within and outside CBC, and actively support efforts to improve the recruitment of candidates from underrepresented groups.
- Coordinate training and development opportunities for staff, providing feedback, coaching, and opportunities for growth.

- University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of seven years of journalism experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams in a fast-paced, daily, multi-platform news or financial reporting environment.

- A high-energy leader with a positive, team-first attitude and the ability to motivate and coach teams, encourage creativity, and embrace experimentation.
- Demonstrated skills in talent recognition, development, and retention.
- Experience and commitment to developing content strategies to feature new voices and perspectives, connecting with new, younger, and more diverse audiences hit hardest by economic shifts.
- A strong, proven connection to diverse communities across Canada, and a deep, nuanced understanding of how cost-of-living issues impact everyday Canadians.
- Strong people management skills with a keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
