The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities of the U.S. operations. The Accounting Coordinator supports inventory and intercompany accounting, assists with finance administration and reporting, and shares expertise in U.S. tax and accounting to help an international team learn and grow.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping activities for the U.S. operations.
- Own core accounting processes to ensure financial records are accurate, timely, and well-supported.
- Perform general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Support month-end close activities to ensure deadlines are met and financial results are reliable.
- Apply and follow GAAP accounting standards in daily work and reporting.
- Assist with inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies in a timely and thorough manner.
- Maintain and support intercompany transactions and balances between the U.S. entity and related entities.
- Regularly reconcile intercompany accounts with Canadian and other group entities to ensure accuracy and alignment.
- Monitor and manage the finance inbox for the U.S. operations and respond to inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation for all transactions and processes.
- Assist external accountants, tax advisors, banks, and other stakeholders by preparing and providing requested information, including year-end data.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and provide additional accounting support as requested by leadership.
- Proactively investigate discrepancies and issues, escalating complex accounting, tax, or compliance matters rather than resolving them independently.
- Share practical knowledge of U.S. tax and accounting practices to support and develop colleagues in other locations.
- Work independently with a strong sense of ownership while collaborating closely with the broader accounting and finance team.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience with general ledger accounting and day-to-day bookkeeping activities.
- Hands-on experience supporting or executing month-end close processes.
- Solid understanding of GAAP accounting standards and their practical application.
- Previous experience working with an ERP system that is more complex than basic accounting software.
- Experience with account reconciliations, including intercompany and inventory-related accounts.
- Knowledge of sales tax accounting and related compliance processes.
- Experience working with inventory accounting and inventory software.
- Previous experience in an intercompany accounting environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate, timely, and well-supported financial records.
- Strong organizational skills to manage documentation and multiple accounting processes simultaneously.
- Capability to work independently with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
- Strong communication skills to respond to inquiries and collaborate with cross-border teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Practical experience and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.
- Experience collaborating with external accountants, tax advisors, banks, and other professional service providers.
- Ability to prepare ad hoc reports and provide flexible support across various accounting functions.
- Comfort sharing expertise in U.S. tax and accounting to support knowledge transfer and team development.
- Appreciation for a culture that values practical knowledge and experience over formal credentials.
- Willingness to ask questions, seek clarification, and escalate complex matters when appropriate.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, reflecting a growing organization where priorities can change quickly and workload is expected to increase over time as the U.S. entity continues to expand. The role is based in an office that is physically separate from the rest of the accounting and finance team, yet the team maintains constant communication throughout the day and remains readily available to answer questions and provide support. Training is provided based on the candidates experience level, and additional resources are available as needed. The culture encourages ownership, independence, and an elevated sense of responsibility, while also promoting a supportive atmosphere where employees are urged to speak up, ask questions, and collaborate. Practical knowledge and hands-on experience are highly valued, and the organization emphasizes knowledge sharing and mutual development, particularly in U.S. tax and accounting. Work hours offer some flexibility, with options such as a 95 or 75 schedule, aligned with both employee preference and business needs.
