About this role

We are the independent expert in assurance and risk management. Driven by our purpose, to safeguard life, property, and the environment, we empower our customers and their stakeholders with facts and reliable insights so that critical decisions can be made with confidence.

As a trusted voice for many of the world’s most successful organizations, we use our knowledge to advance safety and performance, set industry benchmarks, and inspire and invent solutions to tackle global transformations.

DNV is seeking a Mathematical Modeller to join our Plant Product Engineering team.

You will help develop mathematical and computational models used to understand the consequences and risks associated with hazardous events, supporting customers in making safer and better-informed decisions.

You will work with experienced modellers, scientists and software developers on our industry-leading quantitative risk assessment products, including Phast and Safeti. Your work will contribute to technically challenging areas such as fire, explosion and dispersion modelling, as well as emerging applications involving hydrogen, ammonia, carbon dioxide and LNG.

The role offers an opportunity to develop expertise in consequence and risk modelling while gaining practical experience of creating and maintaining commercial scientific software. You will be supported by experienced colleagues and given opportunities to build your technical, software and industry knowledge.

The preferred location is Manchester, UK, although other UK locations may be considered for the right candidate.

Tasks may include:

- Model development, implementation, testing and validation across a range of consequence and risk models. In addition, the on-going improvement or refinement of those models in response to customer needs.
- Modelling and development of features for energy transition challenges related to hydrogen, ammonia, CO 2 and LNG
- Work with software developers to integrate models into commercial quantitative risk assessment software, including Phast and Safeti.
- Work closely with industry partners and internal stakeholders on future development and alignment of models.
- Contribute to advanced risk advisory services by providing modelling domain expertise and advice
