Trade Compliance Manager | IC4
This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our Glasgow office locations and should expect to be in office 3 days per week.
Sonos's Global Trade Compliance function is building the operational foundation that will support the company's international growth. This role sits at the center of that build — owning the global HTS Master List, responding to classification requests from every region, and developing the process documentation the function currently lacks. Beyond that classification core, the role carries a specific mandate: to audit and map trade compliance activity across Asia-Pacific, surface what is being done informally, and deliver a concrete recommendation on what the function needs on the ground. It is a high-visibility role for someone who wants to build something from the ground up, not maintain something that already exists.
What You'll Do
- Serve as primary custodian of the global HTS Master List — the single source of truth for Sonos product classifications across all markets — keeping it accurate, current, and audit-ready.
- Research and assign HTS classifications for new products, components, and markets as required by the new product introduction process and business requests from any region.
- Respond to HTS code queries from internal stakeholders across NPI, supply chain, fulfillment, and sales within a 48-hour SLA, escalating complex or novel classifications to the Global Trade Compliance Manager.
- Monitor tariff changes and regulatory updates across all relevant markets and flag material changes promptly.
- Conduct a structured audit of trade compliance activity across Asia-Pacific — mapping who is doing what, under what authority, and to what standard, including export compliance work currently handled by the inbound logistics team.
- Identify gaps, risks, duplication, and unmanaged compliance exposure in the current Asia-Pacific picture and deliver a documented recommendation.
- Document existing customs and trade compliance processes and support customs database evaluation by mapping current global data flows, classification sources, and tool gaps.
- Support free trade agreement eligibility and country of origin analysis under direction of the Global Trade Compliance Manager.
- Collect KPI data, contribute to regular scorecard production, and prepare data summaries supporting the Global Trade Compliance Manager's cross-functional communications.
- Maintain the IEEPA refund data log and contribute regional classification highlights to the Trade Compliance newsletter.
What You'll Need
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in customs, trade compliance, or import/export operations, with hands-on HTS/HS classification research or tariff analysis.
- Familiarity with Chinese customs regulations and processes, including classification, export documentation, and customs clearance basics.
- Ability to navigate national customs tariff databases, WCO resources, and official ruling databases independently.
- Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large classification datasets.
- Business-level written and spoken English — able to produce reports and communicate clearly with global colleagues.
- Business-level written and spoken Mandarin or Cantonese.
- Qualified applicants must be able to work from the office 3 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both import and export compliance across multiple directions and markets.

- Experience documenting compliance processes and procedures.
- Familiarity with customs database or tariff research platforms such as Flexport, Tradeflow, or equivalent tools.
Note: This position is a fixed-term contract of 12 months, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent global role based on performance.
Inclusion: Research shows that some candidates may not apply for roles if they don't meet all the criteria. If you don't have 100% of the skills listed, we still strongly encourage you to apply if interested.
Visa Sponsorship: Sonos is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this role at this time. We ask that applicants be authorized to work for us in country of role posting, both now and in the future.
