Location: Fairfield, NJ Compensation: $20.00 / hour Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Employment Type:  Temp to Hire

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused Counter Sales Associate to join our team in Fairfield, NJ. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for walk-in and phone-in commercial clients, contractors, and retail customers. You will assist with product selection, process orders accurately, and ensure an organized, well-stocked sales counter.

Key Responsibilities

Greet walk-in customers and answer inbound calls promptly, offering professional and knowledgeable customer service.

Assist customers in identifying product needs, looking up inventory, providing price quotes, and recommending complementary items.

Accurately enter and process sales orders, invoices, returns, and cash/credit transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system.

Pull merchandise from the stockroom or staging area for customer pickups; verify order accuracy before handing off goods.

Maintain an orderly, clean, and fully stocked counter area and showroom display.

Collaborate with the warehouse and inventory teams to track incoming shipments, backorders, and special orders.

Follow up on customer inquiries, delivery status, and order fulfillment issues in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: 1+ years of counter sales, retail sales, or customer service experience (experience in wholesale, building materials, plumbing/HVAC, automotive, or industrial supply is a plus).

Technical Skills: Familiarity with POS software, inventory lookup systems, and basic computer applications (MS Office/email).

Communication: Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; professional phone presence.

Math & Cash Handling: Solid basic math skills for order totaling, change calculation, and inventory counts.

Physical Capability: Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift/move items up to 40–50 lbs.

Reliability: Punctual and dependable attendance aligned with our Monday–Friday business hours.
