We are seeking a Senior Java AWS Backend Developer with 6–9 years of experience designing and delivering scalable, secure and high-performing backend applications and distributed systems. The role involves providing technical leadership in the development of Java-based microservices and cloud-native solutions deployed on AWS.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, API design and AWS services, with a proven ability to make sound architectural decisions and deliver robust enterprise applications. The candidate should be comfortable leading technical design, optimising application performance, mentoring developers and collaborating across engineering and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

· Design and lead the development of scalable, resilient and secure Java backend applications and microservices.

· Define and review application architecture, service boundaries, API contracts, integration patterns and technical standards.

· Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and backend services using Java, Spring Boot and related technologies.

· Design application integrations with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, transaction management and performance optimization.

· Design and implement asynchronous processing and event-driven integrations using Apache Kafka and AWS messaging services.

· Evaluate and implement appropriate caching, connection management, concurrency and resiliency patterns.

· Design and deliver cloud-native solutions on AWS, selecting suitable compute, database, messaging, storage and networking services.

· Guide containerization and deployment strategies using Docker, Kubernetes and Amazon EKS.

· Establish application observability practices using structured logging, metrics, monitoring and distributed tracing.

· Identify and resolve complex performance, scalability, reliability and production issues across distributed services.

· Apply secure coding practices and guide implementation of authentication, authorization, data protection and secrets management.

· Drive code quality through design reviews, code reviews, automated testing standards and continuous integration practices.

· Collaborate with architects, product owners, QA, DevOps and platform teams to plan and deliver technical solutions.

· Mentor developers, provide technical guidance, support estimation and planning, and promote engineering best practices.

· Contribute to technical documentation, technology evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Experience

Skills and Qualifications

· 6–9 years of professional experience in Java backend development, including substantial experience designing and delivering production-grade applications.

· Advanced knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, concurrency, JVM behaviour, performance tuning and common architectural patterns.

· Strong experience designing microservices and distributed systems, including service communication, fault tolerance and resiliency patterns.

· Strong understanding of API design, integration patterns, versioning, security and enterprise application architecture.

· Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, query optimisation, transactions and connection pooling.

· Strong knowledge of Apache Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions and event-driven architecture.

· Practical experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, MSK, ElastiCache, EKS, IAM and CloudWatch.

· Experience designing and deploying containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes; Amazon EKS experience is highly desirable.

· Knowledge of caching technologies, distributed caching, asynchronous processing and application performance optimization.

· Experience with application observability, structured logging, metrics, monitoring and distributed tracing.

· Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, secrets management and secure coding practices.

· Experience with automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, contract and performance testing.

· Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, Maven or Gradle, Linux and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

· Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, communication, mentoring and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Mandatory Skills

· Advanced Java and Spring Boot development experience.

· Amazon EKS – practical experience deploying, managing or supporting containerized applications on EKS

· Strong experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful APIs.

· Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.

· Experience with database integration, messaging systems and distributed application design.

· Proven ability to lead technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting and mentoring.
