Description
CNC Machining Estimator
Mach3 Machine | Cuyahoga Falls, OH | Full-Time | Onsite
###
Mach3 Machine is seeking an experienced CNC Machining Estimator to develop accurate, competitive quotes for CNC machining and precision-machined components in a job shop environment. This is a hands-on technical estimating role for someone who understands how machined parts are actually made. You will review RFQs, engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, tolerances, materials, tooling requirements, and manufacturing processes to determine the most effective production strategy and develop accurate estimates for labor, material, tooling, and outside processing. Beyond quoting, you will help turn awarded work into executable manufacturing plans by creating Bills of Material (BOMs), manufacturing routings in Visibility ERP, and production plans. You'll also participate in project kickoff meetings and work closely with production, purchasing, engineering, and project management.
This could be a strong opportunity for someone who has a strong understanding of CNC machining processes and knows how to evaluate the cost and manufacturing requirements of a machined part.
What You'll Do
- Review customer RFQs, engineering drawings, prints, CAD models, specifications, and technical requirements to understand part complexity, tolerances, materials, quantities, and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop accurate and competitive CNC machining estimates and job shop quotes using proven manufacturing methods, historical performance, and expected setup and cycle times.
- Determine the most effective manufacturing and machining strategy, including machine selection, operation sequence, setups, tooling, fixtures, and required outside services.
- Estimate machining labor, setup time, cycle time, material, tooling, consumables, outside processing, and shop burden to develop complete job costs.
- Prepare detailed, itemized customer quotes that balance manufacturing cost, shop capability, lead time, and competitiveness.
- Develop manufacturing plans and process routings that support production once work is awarded.
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) for quoting, purchasing, planning, and order release.
- Create and maintain job routings in Visibility ERP, defining operation sequences, expected labor hours, and production flow.
- Evaluate internal machine shop capabilities and outside suppliers to determine manufacturing feasibility, capacity, lead time, and cost .
- Support new project launches by participating in kickoff meetings , clarifying scope, confirming manufacturing and routing strategies, and aligning estimated costs with planned execution.
- Partner with production, engineering, purchasing, and project management to validate assumptions and ensure quoted work reflects actual shop capabilities.
- Review completed and awarded jobs against actual labor hours, cycle times, material usage, and outside processing costs to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
- Improve the quoting process through standardization, historical cost data, automation, and advanced estimating methods .
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
The strongest candidates will bring a combination of CNC machining knowledge and manufacturing cost-estimating experience.
- Experience in CNC machining, precision machining, manufacturing estimating, job shop estimating, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, or process planning.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and/or turning.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, tolerances, and GD&T.
- Ability to evaluate a machined component and determine an effective manufacturing process, operation sequence, machine requirements, setups, tooling, and fixtures.
- Experience estimating setup time, machining cycle time, labor, material, tooling, and outside processing.
- Knowledge of manufacturing materials and how material type, geometry, tolerances, surface finish, and part complexity affect machining cost.
- Experience building manufacturing routings, BOMs, and production plans.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems; experience with Visibility ERP is especially valuable.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with machinists, programmers, engineers, purchasing, production, project management, and suppliers.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple RFQs and estimating priorities.
Why This Role
This is more than a desk-based quoting position. You'll have the opportunity to use your machining knowledge from the initial RFQ through manufacturing planning, working directly with the people responsible for purchasing, engineering, machining, and delivering the finished product.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day.
· Ability to climb stairs as needed.
· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs infrequently.
