About this role

Workplace Type: Onsite

Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.

Cadia is a major gold and copper mining operation in central New South Wales, about 25 kilometres from the city of Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. The site is known for the Cadia East underground mine – one of the world’s largest gold deposits – which uses innovative block caving methods to produce gold doré and gold-rich copper concentrate. Unlike remote mines, Cadia is a residential (drive-in, drive-out) operation where many employees live with their families in nearby communities, enjoying the Orange region’s excellent lifestyle and amenities.

Cadia’s team has a collaborative culture built around safety, innovation and community partnership. We proudly support local towns through jobs and in-kind contributions and even run an Indigenous Buddy Programme to welcome and mentor new Indigenous employees. Working at Cadia gives you all the growth opportunities of a Tier-1 mine within a friendly regional setting – a place where you can advance your skills, be home with family, and contribute to both Newmont’s success and the prosperity of local communities.

- Supervise, mentor and develop plant metallurgists and graduates.

- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, production, efficiency and free cash flow.
- Manage metallurgical test work, consultants, suppliers and process improvement projects within agreed schedules and budgets.

##### Prerequisites for Success in This Role

- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
- Relevant experience within large-scale or complex mineral processing operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop metallurgists and graduates, while working effectively with operational and technical stakeholders.
- Experience with metallurgical accounting systems, process surveys and data analysis.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting and continuous improvement capability, supported by a commitment to safe production.

##### Your Work Environment

This site-based position is located at Newmont’s Cadia operation and is offered on either a 5/2-day shift or 9-day fortnight roster. Reporting to the Superintendent, Metallurgy, you will lead a team of three direct reports, along with graduates and vacation students, and work closely with processing, maintenance, planning, mining, projects and external technical partners. The successful candidate will be required to hold unrestricted Australian working rights.
