About this role
Research and Technology Mission Directorate to assist NASA researchers in the development of next generation high temperature alloys specifically designed for additive manufacturing.
NASA has recently demonstrated that additive manufacturing (AM) can be leveraged to develop novel high temperature materials. One example was the development of GRX-810, an oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy that exhibits impressive high temperature stability and was developed specifically for AM. Still, how these new materials, such as ODS alloys, can be fully optimized for AM is not fully understood. This internship will explore how the laser parameters used to print ODS alloys affects the microstructure and properties of the consolidated metal. This opportunity will introduce characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, and X-Ray Diffraction.
