Loss Prevention Specialist

Position Purpose

The Loss Prevention Specialist is responsible for supporting store safety, security, asset protection, and shrink reduction initiatives. This position helps identify and prevent theft, fraud, inventory loss, and operational risks while promoting a safe environment for customers and associates. The Loss Prevention Specialist works closely with store leadership and associates to ensure compliance with company policies, investigative procedures, and loss prevention programs.

Key Responsibilities

Asset Protection & Shrink Reduction

- Monitor store activity to identify and reduce theft, fraud, and operational losses.
- Conduct surveillance and observe customer and associate activity in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Investigate incidents involving shoplifting, internal theft, policy violations, and inventory discrepancies.
- Assist in apprehensions and incident response procedures when authorized and trained.
- Support inventory accuracy initiatives and shrink reduction programs.

Safety & Security

- Promote a safe shopping and working environment throughout the store.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Assist with accident investigations and documentation.
- Monitor emergency preparedness procedures and security protocols.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and asset protection standards.

Investigations & Reporting

- Prepare accurate and detailed reports regarding incidents, investigations, and observed violations.
- Document evidence and maintain records in accordance with company requirements.
- Review exception reporting and identify unusual patterns or activity.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and corporate asset protection personnel when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding investigations and sensitive information.

Operational Compliance

- Conduct audits of operational processes, cash handling procedures, receiving practices, and inventory controls.
- Verify compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify process gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Support store leadership in implementing loss prevention best practices.

Associate Awareness & Training

- Educate associates on theft prevention, safety practices, and asset protection procedures.
- Assist with loss prevention training programs and awareness initiatives.
- Promote a culture of accountability and integrity.
- Provide guidance regarding policy compliance and operational controls.

Customer Service

- Maintain a visible, professional presence on the sales floor.
- Balance security responsibilities with providing excellent customer service.
- Interact with customers professionally and respectfully.
- Support a welcoming shopping environment while protecting company assets.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous retail, security, military, law enforcement, or loss prevention experience preferred.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques and loss prevention principles preferred.
- Strong observation and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout all areas of the store and surrounding property.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to respond quickly to safety and security situations.
