Porter (Temporary)

Job
Summary:

The
Porter/ Yard Attendant will be responsible for carrying out instructions given
by the Supervisor and assisting in loading and offloading materials from the
trucks. The position holder will also be responsible for receiving, storing,
inventorying, issuing and transferring items to and from the Warehouse.

Job
Duties:

1. Assist
drivers in packing items on truck.
2. To
assist customers who are in the lumber yard.
3. To
ensure materials received are packed correctly in the stalls.
4. Ensure
that all returned goods are placed in the correct location.
5. To
strap down and secure all loose materials in the yard and ensure all safety
procedures are adhered to.
6. To
ensure that all yard boundaries are kept clean and to assist in the yard
maintenance and clean up.
7. Can
be called upon to assist anywhere within the department if necessary.
8. To
work on trucks in assisting to load and offload materials.
9. Can
be called upon at any time to do duties set out by the General Manager and
Supervisors of the working office (e.g. working overtime for cement shipments).
Specialty jobs include:
- Identifying and
differentiating between the various types of lumber and exotic timber, as well
as other materials sold in the yard.

- Assist in the preparation
of stock count.

- Assist Yard Supervisor in
receiving flat racks & offloading of materials and securing the stocks.

- Assist in stocking
shelves within the store.

- Unpack deliveries and
sort items by department or section.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
· Extended periods of
standing may be required when dealing with customers.
· Physically able to engage in repetitive hand
movements, reaching shelves of varying heights, stoop, bend and kneel
frequently.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

- High school diploma or
equivalent

- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent
communication skills
- Attention to detail and able to learn where store
products are located to provide information to customers.
