Position Title: Finance Specialist
1. Job Purpose
The Finance Specialist will provide professional financial planning, analysis, forecasting, modelling, reporting, and advisory support to the Client. The role will support sound financial decision-making through analysis of financial information, preparation of financial plans and forecasts, evaluation of costs and revenues, assessment of financial risks, monitoring of budgets, and identification of opportunities to improve financial efficiency and resource utilization.
2. Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Advisory
- Gather, analyse, and interpret financial information in collaboration with management and relevant departments.
- Conduct financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making, including analysis of costs, revenues, expenditure patterns, and financial performance.
- Analyse financial trends and provide evidence-based financial advice and recommendations to management.
- Evaluate financial information and identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring management attention.
- Provide financial insights to support business planning and resource allocation decisions.
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Modelling
- Support the preparation of financial plans in collaboration with relevant departments and management.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and decision-making.
- Prepare financial forecasts based on historical performance, current financial conditions, and anticipated future requirements.
- Monitor financial plans and recommend adjustments based on changes in financial performance, resource availability, or operational priorities.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess the potential financial impact of different plans and decisions.
Budgeting & Financial Reporting
- Support the preparation, review, implementation, and monitoring of institutional and departmental budgets.
- Prepare periodic budget reports and financial statements in accordance with applicable professional, legal, regulatory, and institutional requirements.
- Analyse budget performance and identify significant variances between approved budgets and actual results.
- Investigate financial variances and provide explanations and recommendations to management.
- Monitor budget utilization and highlight emerging financial pressures and areas requiring corrective action.
- Ensure that financial reports and supporting documentation are accurate, complete, and submitted within required timelines.
Financial Risk Management & Assessment
- Conduct financial risk assessments and support the development of appropriate risk analyses and models.
- Analyse and quantify financial risks and assess the potential financial impact of projects, programmes, investments, and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor identified financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation and corrective measures.
- Support management in evaluating the financial implications of proposed initiatives and major financial decisions.
Cost Control & Financial Efficiency
- Analyse expenditure and cost trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved resource utilization.
- Recommend practical financial solutions to strengthen cost control and improve financial performance.
- Support management in evaluating alternative financial strategies and resource allocation options.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, efficiency, and value for money.
- Monitor financial performance against approved plans and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
Financial Processes, Records & Documentation
- Document financial processes, procedures, models, assumptions, and analytical methodologies.
- Support the improvement and standardization of financial systems, processes, and reporting practices.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date financial records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare financial reports, analytical briefs, management reports, and recommendations.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained for financial analyses and reports.
- Collaborate with relevant departments and stakeholders on financial planning, analysis, reporting, and related matters.
- Perform other duties relevant to the position as assigned.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, Public Finance, Economics, Management, or another relevant field.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with substantial professional experience may be considered where applicable.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CFA, or an equivalent relevant certification is an added advantage.
Relevant Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience for candidates holding a Master’s Degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience for candidates holding a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, financial modelling, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Experience in financial analysis, cost analysis, and financial performance monitoring.
- Experience in financial risk assessment and management is an added advantage.
- Experience working in a structured or public-sector environment is an added advantage.
