Job Title: Packaging Engineer II Job Description
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer II to join our team and support packaging development activities for medical devices. This role involves owning packaging projects from concept through validation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards. The successful candidate will support packaging system design, validation activities, design controls, risk management, labeling, and manufacturing support. A strong project management skill set, documentation ownership, and the ability to work cross-functionally throughout the product development lifecycle are essential.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage packaging projects from concept through validation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
- Support packaging system design and validation activities.
- Manage design controls, risk management, labeling, and manufacturing support.
- Work independently on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams.
Essential Skills
- Medical device packaging design experience, including sterile barrier systems and terminally sterilized products.
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards and packaging validation requirements.
- Experience owning documentation, design history files (DHF), testing protocols, and regulatory deliverables.
- Proficient with CREO for packaging design and drawing creation.
- Working knowledge of FDA Part 820, GMP requirements, risk management, and medical device design controls.
- Experience with steam sterilization packaging systems, ASTM standards, Six Sigma, ISTA testing, and labeling development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of packaging engineering experience preferred.
- Experience developing packaging systems for terminally sterilized medical devices.
- Knowledge of ISO Part 1 and Part 2 requirements.
- Experience with packaging validation protocols and reports.
- CREO proficiency and 3D design skills.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Experience with steam sterilization cases and trays.
- Knowledge of EU MDR requirements.
- Experience supporting regulatory remediation projects.
- Six Sigma or DFSS experience.
- Minitab experience.
Work Environment
The position is based onsite in a Memphis area facility, requiring four days onsite per week for a total of 40 hours per week. The work environment is a collaborative engineering and manufacturing setting, involving cross-functional interaction with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and R&D teams. It is a fast-paced project environment supporting multiple product lines and remediation initiatives.

This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
