Job Title: Superintendent Job Description
The Superintendent oversees day-to-day construction activities on assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. This role coordinates field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors, manages site logistics, and supports project teams in achieving budget, schedule, and quality objectives. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to long-standing, complex projects, including governmental work, with room for professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day construction activities on assigned projects to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
- Coordinate and supervise field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain smooth on-site operations.
- Monitor project schedules, track progress, and provide timely updates to project stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, company procedures, and all applicable regulations on the job site.
- Conduct regular site walks, inspections, and quality control reviews to verify that work meets project specifications and standards.
- Coordinate deliveries, equipment, and material logistics to support uninterrupted construction activities.
- Identify and resolve field issues promptly, communicating solutions clearly to project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation, including daily reports and site records.
- Lead toolbox talks and actively promote a strong safety culture among all on-site personnel.
- Support project teams in meeting budget, schedule, and quality objectives through effective field management and communication.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and construction documents to guide field activities.
- Assist with installation tasks and ensure work aligns with design and specification requirements.
- Support the preparation, communication, or response to Requests for Information (RFIs) related to field conditions and project documentation.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of construction experience in a field or site-based role.
- Strong ability to manage and coordinate day-to-day construction activities on active job sites.
- Experience supervising or directing general labor and field personnel.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and construction drawings.
- Knowledge of installation practices and construction methods relevant to building and infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Requests for Information (RFI) processes and field-related documentation.
- Understanding of safety policies, procedures, and applicable construction regulations.
- Ability to conduct site walks, inspections, and quality control reviews with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Organizational skills to maintain daily reports, site records, and project documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- OSHA 30 certification, demonstrating advanced knowledge of construction safety standards and practices.
- Possession of a Real ID is ideally preferred to support access requirements for certain project locations.
- Interest in professional growth and long-term development within an established construction organization.
- Motivation to work on governmental projects and complex, high-visibility assignments.
- Commitment to promoting a strong safety culture and participating in regular toolbox talks.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role with typical working hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at a secure facility location. The Superintendent works primarily in an active construction environment, regularly conducting site walks, inspections, and overseeing field activities. The role involves coordinating equipment, materials, and deliveries on site and interacting daily with field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors. Work is performed in outdoor and partially enclosed areas typical of construction sites, requiring appropriate safety gear and adherence to all site access and security protocols.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wayne, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
