Job Purpose:
To lead and drive an integrated SHE management function that ensures a safe, compliant and responsible working environment through effective risk management, legal compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA): Ensure comprehensive HIRAs are in place, regularly reviewed and effectively managed, with appropriate controls implemented to mitigate identified risks.
• SHE Audits & Inspections: Plan, conduct and manage internal SHE audits, inspections and compliance reviews, ensuring findings are addressed and closed out within agreed timeframes.
• SHE Management System: Monitor and maintain compliance with SHE policies, procedures and systems, identifying non-conformances, unsafe acts and conditions and driving corrective actions.
• Emergency Preparedness: Manage emergency preparedness programmes, drills and exercises, ensuring records are maintained, shortcomings are addressed and emergency plans are continuously improved.
• Incident Management: Investigate SHE incidents, identify root causes, coordinate corrective and preventative actions, and monitor incident trends to prevent recurrence.
• Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all required permits, licences, certificates, authorisations and legal appointments are maintained and that the site remains compliant with applicable SHE legislation.
• Contractor Management: Ensure effective SHE management of contractors, including compliance with site safety requirements and applicable legal standards.
• SHE Reporting & Communication: Compile and report SHE KPIs, statistics, trends and key compliance information to management, while communicating relevant safety alerts and legislative updates.
• Safety Awareness & Continuous Improvement: Drive SHE awareness initiatives and promote a strong safety culture through communication, training, observations and ongoing improvement programmes.
• SHE Planning & Projects: Identify SHE-related improvement requirements, contribute to CAPEX planning and support the implementation of projects and initiatives that improve site safety and compliance.
Experience and Qualification:
•Completed National Diploma/Degree
•SAMTRAC certification
•5+ years' Health & Safety experience within an FMCG/manufacturing environment
•Own transport.
Skills and competencies:
•Strong knowledge of OHS Act, SHE legislation and compliance requirements
•Strong technical SHE management, HIRA and risk assessment expertise
•Incident investigation, root-cause analysis and corrective action management
•Auditing, reporting, data analysis and strong Excel proficiency
•Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
•Proactive, organised and results-driven, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
