Job Title: Mechanical Project Manager Job Description
Seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead large-scale mechanical piping projects within data centers, healthcare facilities, hospitals, industrial sites, and other mission-critical environments. This role oversees projects from preconstruction through closeout, maintaining accountability for schedules, budgets, profitability, client relationships, and overall project execution. The ideal candidate independently manages complex projects while collaborating closely with owners, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring successful delivery of scope, schedule, and budget.
- Lead preconstruction activities including preplanning, procurement strategies, and detailed construction project scheduling.
- Review and approve project budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, ensuring optimal allocation of resources within budgetary limitations.
- Negotiate and develop subcontractor contracts with external vendors to secure agreements that are beneficial to project goals.
- Oversee project finances, including profitability, forecasting, cash flow, and cost controls, and remain accountable for overall project financial performance.
- Focus on cost-to-complete performance and compare it to initial project budgets to maintain strong financial outcomes.
- Identify and resolve design conflicts by collaborating with engineers, architects, owners, consultants, and trade partners to clarify project specifications.
- Lead strategic planning efforts and manage submittal, Request for Information (RFI), procurement, and change order processes.
- Implement monthly cost reports and maintain accurate cost projections to support informed decision-making.
- Research and recommend construction means and methods, procurement strategies, and project timelines to optimize project delivery.
- Recognize, price, submit, and implement change orders as needed, ensuring timely and accurate documentation and approvals.
- Approve supplier and subcontractor invoices, verifying accuracy and alignment with contract terms and project budgets.
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and quality standards and promptly report and address any issues.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of mechanical piping systems, construction procedures, project controls, and project management principles.
- Plan and manage scheduling, logistics, and procurement of equipment and materials to support efficient project execution.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a primary point of contact for project communication and reporting.
- Identify and pursue upcoming work opportunities with existing and prospective clients to support business growth.
- Coordinate manpower planning and resource allocation across projects to meet schedule and performance requirements.
- Directly supervise subcontractors, Project Engineers, and Assistant Project Managers, providing guidance and oversight on project activities.
- Train and mentor Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and junior personnel on technical aspects of project management.
- Organize and curate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, contracts, change orders, procurement records, and project correspondence.
- Professionally solicit vendors and suppliers during the procurement process to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
- Prepare and utilize SWOT analyses and risk assessments for current and future projects to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.
- Solve complex project challenges related to schedule, budget, manpower, procurement, and project execution.
- Successfully manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously while maintaining high standards of performance.
- Maintain clear, client-facing communication and relationship-building efforts, ensuring stakeholders remain informed and engaged.
- Enforce procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and productive working environment on all project sites.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Experience utilizing Bluebeam, Procore, and Primavera P6, with strong proficiency preferred.
- In-depth mechanical piping knowledge and understanding of mechanical construction practices.
- Solid project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
- Ability to train and mentor Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and junior staff on project management best practices.
- Understanding of company resource production capabilities and ability to apply them throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and project controls knowledge.
- Knowledge of data center, healthcare, hospital, industrial, and mission-critical construction environments.
- Ability to solve complex project issues related to schedule, budget, manpower, procurement, and overall execution.
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Client-facing communication skills and relationship-building capabilities.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry managing mechanical construction projects.
- Experience managing mechanical construction projects valued up to $15M+ in scope.
- Direct mechanical piping experience on construction projects.
- Experience managing project financials, forecasting, procurement, subcontractors, schedules, and client relationships.
- Experience supporting data center, healthcare, hospital, industrial, or mission-critical projects.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or 10+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a similar field highly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Data center construction experience, particularly with large-scale mechanical piping systems.
- Healthcare and hospital construction experience, including familiarity with specialized mechanical and piping requirements.
- Mission-critical construction experience or similar background in high-reliability environments.
- Industrial construction experience involving complex mechanical and pipe systems.
- Advanced experience with Bluebeam for document management and plan review.
- Experience with Procore for project management, collaboration, and reporting.
- Experience using Primavera P6 for detailed project scheduling and controls.
- Demonstrated forecasting and financial ownership experience for projects ranging from $5M to $15M+ in value.
- Proven client-facing project management experience, including stakeholder communication and relationship development.
- Ability to prepare and utilize SWOT analyses and risk assessments to guide project decisions and future opportunities.
- Experience working in fast-growing construction organizations with significant project backlogs and opportunities for advancement.
Work Environment
This role operates in a fast-paced, field-focused construction project environment supporting large-scale mechanical piping projects across data centers, healthcare facilities, hospitals, industrial sites, and other mission-critical locations. Many data center projects are located south of Atlanta, while healthcare and hospital projects are primarily north of Atlanta, requiring comfort with onsite work and regional travel to project sites. Daily work involves close collaboration with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors in dynamic, schedule-driven settings. The organization is experiencing rapid growth, with a substantial project backlog and more work than available manpower, creating significant opportunities for professional development and career advancement. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Saint George, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
