Job Title: Safety Technician Job Description
The Safety Technician plays a key technical role in implementing, sustaining, and continuously improving safety programs across commercial construction sites, including hotel projects and site refurbishments or upgrades. This position focuses on risk assessment, safety planning, investigations, and vendor oversight to ensure full compliance with safety standards and regulations. The Safety Technician partners closely with safety services teams and leadership to communicate safety concerns, share best practices, and drive a strong safety culture across all active sites.
Responsibilities
- Implement and sustain safety programs across field construction sites, including hotels and refurbishment or upgrade projects.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for site safety, providing guidance on safety procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop detailed safety plans to mitigate risks.
- Perform investigations and technical evaluations related to incidents, near misses, and safety concerns to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Manage and coordinate safety-related activities with general contractors and third-party vendors to ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor construction site operations for compliance with OSHA regulations, internal safety policies, and industry standards.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to verify compliance, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
- Support and deliver safety training to site personnel, reinforcing health and safety procedures and expectations.
- Partner with safety services team members to communicate safety issues, trends, and best practices to leadership and project teams.
- Prepare and present safety reports, findings, and recommendations using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel for leadership and project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate documentation of risk assessments, investigations, audits, and compliance activities.
- Use Microsoft Outlook to manage communications, schedules, and follow-up actions related to safety initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong time management skills by organizing daily tasks and adjusting schedules to accommodate changing priorities and emergent safety needs.
- Adapt quickly to evolving project conditions and requirements while maintaining consistent safety oversight.
- Support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance efforts, including regulatory audits and internal reviews.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging reporting of hazards, sharing lessons learned, and reinforcing safe behaviors on site.
Essential Skills
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in site construction safety management or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience with commercial construction site safety management, including active construction and refurbishment projects.
- Proven experience managing third-party vendors and general contractors with respect to safety standards and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and OSHA safety practices, including construction safety requirements.
- Hands-on experience conducting risk assessments and developing comprehensive safety plans.
- Experience performing investigations and technical evaluations related to safety incidents and concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct safety audits and implement safety procedures and corrective actions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, safety services team members, and on-site personnel regarding safety issues and best practices.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities throughout the workday.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on construction sites.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions in an outdoor and semi-outdoor construction environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and climbing as required for site inspections and safety oversight.
- A 4-year Bachelor's Degree is required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Strong background in health and safety, with experience in safety training and EHS (environmental, health, and safety) programs.
- Experience with construction safety management and construction safety procedures.
- Familiarity with safety audits and compliance processes in a construction environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 level concepts and practices.
- Experience working with safety procedures, safety audits, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise safety presentations and reports for various stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams and with external partners.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based on active commercial construction sites, including hotel projects and refurbishment or upgrade locations. The work environment involves regular movement across construction areas, frequent site inspections, and direct interaction with contractors and vendors. The Safety Technician works in both indoor and outdoor settings and must be comfortable in varying weather conditions and around typical construction equipment and activities. The position requires standing and walking for extended periods, climbing and accessing different site levels, and performing occasional lifting and carrying related to safety inspections and equipment. Standard business attire may be combined with appropriate safety gear such as hard hats, safety vests, protective footwear, and other personal protective equipment as required by site conditions and safety protocols. Work hours may vary based on project needs, and the role requires flexibility to adjust schedules to address changing priorities and emergent safety issues.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Orlando, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $66.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
