Job Title: Surveyor Job Description
The Surveyor lays out precise reference points and dimensions on ground and concrete to prepare foundations, slabs, and building structures. This role focuses on field layouts and surveying activities that ensure accurate placement of concrete, steel, and other structural elements on active construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field layouts and surveying activities to support foundations, slabs, and building erection.
- Calculate points using construction drawings and project plans.
- Perform topographic surveys for estimating and as-built documentation, with the ability to use CAD software considered a plus.
- Verify the location and elevations of grade, embeds, anchor rods, and formwork prior to concrete pours.
- Confirm anchor rod locations and concrete elevations before steel erection.
- Verify steel plumbness using a total station.
- Establish exterior and interior grade and working lines for contractors and crafts.
- Assist in evaluating potential dimensional issues and other field problems, providing practical solutions.
- Oversee selected subcontractor work activities as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support project needs.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and maintain compliance with a drug-free work environment.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience with site layouts, field layouts, and surveying.
- Proficiency in operating a total station for layout and verification tasks.
- Ability to perform survey calculations, including topographic measurements.
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software for survey-related tasks.
- Knowledge of general contract and subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong familiarity with surveying instruments and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, shop drawings, procedure manuals, and safety rules.
- Experience working with data collectors, electronic or robotic total stations, digital levels, tripods, prisms, and related surveying tools.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Higher-level math skills, including algebra and trigonometry.
- Physical ability to work at elevated heights, frequently lift materials weighing up to 70 pounds, and perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions.

- Capability to coordinate and oversee certain subcontractor activities when needed.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in layouts and measurements.

- Interest in working across multiple job sites and adapting to various construction environments.
Work Environment
This position is based out of Mobile, Alabama and is performed primarily on active construction sites. The role involves regular travel along the Gulf Coast region, including areas from Florida to Louisiana, as well as south Georgia and south Alabama. Some overnight travel is required, with hotel accommodations provided and a daily per diem offered. The Surveyor works outdoors in all weather conditions, often at elevated heights and in dynamic construction environments, using equipment such as total stations, data collectors, digital levels, tripods, and prisms. The position includes the use of a company vehicle, gas card, and insurance, and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement while gaining exposure to diverse construction projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62400.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
