Job Title: CAD Drafter / CAD Technician Job Description
The CAD Drafter / CAD Technician supports detailers, designers, and engineers by producing accurate, high-quality computer-aided drafting and design documentation for a variety of projects. This role focuses on preparing and revising engineering drawings, assisting with design solutions, and contributing to continuous improvement of drafting practices and standards within a collaborative technical team environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare new engineering drawings and revise existing drawings of basic components based on specific sketches, layouts, and design input.
- Adhere to established drafting standards, procedures, and practices for the selected discipline and for each project.
- Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Utilize standard drafting detail programs to complete tasks efficiently and in line with project requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to drafting details, workflows, and design documentation processes.
- Research solutions to project concerns and present practical options to resolve design-related problems.
- Support ad hoc drafting and design projects as assigned by leadership, adjusting priorities as needed to meet project demands.
- Collaborate with technical teams, including detailers, designers, and engineers, to ensure drawings meet project specifications and expectations.
- Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and quality standards in the execution of drafting and design work.
- Perform other drafting and design-related duties as assigned to support project and team objectives.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma or GED and coursework in drafting technology.
- Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program, with the ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time-saving programs, and routines.
- Ability to work with computer-aided drafting (CAD) tools to support electrical, structural, civil, and power delivery design projects.
- Basic knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with technical teams and documenting design work.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for addressing design issues and project concerns.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work within budget constraints.
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the country where this position is based, without time limitations or the need for work sponsorship.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in computer-aided drafting/design is preferred.
- Basic knowledge and experience in multiple CAD systems, including 3D and BIM platforms, is preferred.
- Experience with CAD tools and workflows related to electrical design, structural design, civil design (including Civil 3D), and power delivery projects.
- Familiarity with MicroStation or similar CAD software is beneficial.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to take initiative and support team objectives.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn, with an aptitude to grow and develop within the drafting and design field.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional, technology-driven environment where computer-aided drafting and design tools are used daily to support engineering projects. The CAD Drafter / CAD Technician works closely with detailers, designers, and engineers in a collaborative team setting, typically in an office or design studio environment equipped with CAD software, 3D and BIM tools, and Microsoft Office applications. Work is primarily performed on computers, with a focus on accuracy, adherence to standards, and meeting project deadlines and budget requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
