Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and integration of advanced industrial equipment and automation systems. This position offers the opportunity to work within a highly collaborative engineering environment, contributing to the development of in-house electrical systems from concept through commissioning. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and improving electrical design standards while taking ownership of technical deliverables and working closely with engineers, technicians, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

- Lead electrical engineering activities with a high degree of autonomy and technical ownership.
- Develop and update electrical designs, wiring diagrams, and schematics using AutoCAD.
- Select electrical components and develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support procurement and manufacturing activities.
- Conduct quality control inspections, commissioning support, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
- Support system integration activities and provide hands-on assistance during assembly, troubleshooting, and testing.
- Collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and production personnel throughout build and validation processes.
- Design electrical systems for space-constrained equipment and custom-engineered products.
- Review engineering documentation to identify design issues, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and industry best practices.

Essential Skills

- EIT designation or progress toward professional engineering registration.
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience in industrial, automation, manufacturing, or engineered equipment environments.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design, drafting, and schematic development.
- Ability to manage design details and engineering deliverables independently.
- Experience selecting electrical components and creating detailed Bills of Materials.
- Strong background in electrical testing, quality assurance, and system validation.
- Solid understanding of low-voltage DC systems, power distribution, and control circuits.
- Experience designing electrical systems within compact or space-constrained equipment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with controls engineering, automation systems, or machine design.
- Exposure to PLCs, motion control systems, instrumentation, or industrial networking.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
- Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning activities.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment, specialty machinery, robotics, mobile equipment, marine systems, or other engineered products.
- Understanding of power conversion systems and integration between higher-voltage and low-voltage equipment.
- Previous experience leading projects or mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
- Hands-on electrical assembly, wiring, troubleshooting, or commissioning experience.

Work Environment

This position offers a blend of engineering design, system development, testing, and hands-on project support within a collaborative technical team. The role involves close interaction with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and project stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle. Approximately half of the role is focused on electrical design and documentation, with the remaining time spent supporting system builds, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and quality activities. The position provides significant ownership, technical influence, and the opportunity to work on innovative engineered equipment in a fast-paced development environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burnaby, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $61.00 - $74.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Burnaby,BC.
