This position is based out of Feeding America’s Chicago office. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

The Opportunity

The Vice President, Human Resources Operations directs all aspects of Feeding America’s Human Resources Operations including, benefits design and administration, HRIS and payroll, policy development and administration, employee engagement, employee relations, recruiting and onboarding/offboarding, office management and safety/compliance.  Serves as the on the ground HR team lead ensuring the full spectrum of the HR lifecycle is operationalized in support of the organization’s Employee Value Proposition.  Leads risk mitigation and regulatory and legal compliance with respect to HR policies, practices and programs.

Compensation

As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.

Salary Range: $195,084 – $218,035  Based on Experience

Responsibilities:

- Oversees benefits development and administration (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement), open enrollment, employee communications and broker/carrier relationships.  Ensures that benefit plans and offerings support work-life balance for FANO staff and balance market competitiveness with sustainable cost.
- Ensures compliance with applicable benefits and leave regulations (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, state leave programs) and maintains accurate plan documentation.
- Oversees employee relations processes and practices that ensure an open, supportive and fair environment.  Oversees Employee Relations partnering with HR Partners that promotes leadership accountability and supports effective team function.  Manages employee relations escalations, investigations, documentation standards and risk mitigation.  Serves as an HR Partner for assigned departments to provide consultation and guidance across the full spectrum of human resources processes, programs and issues.
- Designs, updates and socializes HR policies and SOPs that are fair and consistent and promotes an environment where all employees can thrive.  Ensures consistent application across the organization and compliance with legal/regulatory requirements.
- Directs full-cycle talent acquisition, including workforce planning, recruiting operations, vendor/agency management selection processes and onboarding with a focus on hiring diverse, high-quality talent and ensuring onboarding processes for new team members create a foundation for future success.
- Oversees end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing across multi-state locations; maintains compliance with federal state and local wage and hour laws manage payroll tax filing, audits, vendor relationships and payroll system integrations.
- Oversees HRIS roadmap and administration, including configuration, integrations, data governance, reporting and user training.
- Leads safety and compliance programs (OSHA, incident reporting, workers’ compensation, safety training, audits, corrective actions).
- Responsible for office management, including safety and office protocols for both the DC and Chicago offices.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

- 8-10 years of progressive human resources leadership experience with a balance between specialization and HR generalist work.
- Demonstrated experience designing and administering benefit systems including leading RFPs, vendor management, benchmarking, employee communication.
- Deep experience in all aspects of employee relations including leadership coaching, team effectiveness, issues resolution and problem solving, risk mitigation and legal compliance.
- Demonstrated experience implementing HRIS/Payroll systems that meet regulatory standards and include risk management mitigation best practices.
- Experience developing and implementing talent acquisition and employee engagement strategies.
- Experience providing direct human resources support to senior leaders including employee relations and HR solutions implementation.
