About this role
At Intergroup, we keep New Zealand moving. As a leading industrial and infrastructure services business, we deliver the essential work that underpins our communities—maintaining critical assets, supporting industry, and ensuring the services people depend on run smoothly every day.
We're more than a People & Capability team—we're trusted partners to the business.
We're looking for a proactive and approachable People & Capability Advisor to join our team at InterGroup. This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid People & Capability foundation who has had exposure to employment relations cases and is ready to build their confidence, develop their technical skills, and take the lead in conversations with managers.
You'll be a key point of contact for managers across the business, supporting them with people-related queries, recruitment activities, and employment relations matters. You'll have the opportunity to manage cases hands-on, develop your advisory capability, and work alongside an experienced People & Capability team for guidance and support.
If you're someone who enjoys being out in the business, building relationships, and getting involved rather than sitting behind a desk, this could be the role for you.
What you'll be doing
You'll work closely with managers across the business, providing practical support and advice to help them manage their people confidently. You'll:
- Be the first point of contact for managers with people-related queries, providing timely and practical guidance.
- Assist managers with employment relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary processes, investigations, and employee concerns.
- Get hands-on with managing employment relations cases, supporting managers through the process and leading conversations with guidance from the wider team where needed.
- Coordinate and manage end-to-end recruitment activities, from understanding hiring requirements and advertising roles through to interviews, offers, and onboarding.
- Partner with managers to support recruitment decisions and deliver a positive candidate experience.
- Assisting with preparation of People compliance documentations including contracts, variations of employment.
- Provide generalist People & Capability support across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance, development, and employee exits.
- Support managers in applying employment legislation, company policies, and procedures consistently and fairly.
- Build strong relationships with operational teams, getting out into the business to understand their people and operational needs.
- Contribute to People & Capability initiatives that support employee engagement, development, and organisational capability.
What we're looking for
You'll be someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships, and finding practical solutions. You don't need to know everything, but you'll have a good People & Capability foundation, some experience managing employment relations matters, and a genuine interest in developing your advisory skills.
You'll bring:
- Experience in a generalist People & Capability or People & Capability Advisor role, or a similar position.
- Exposure to managing employment relations cases, with an understanding of how to support managers through people processes.
- Confidence communicating with managers and a willingness to lead conversations and provide advice.
- Experience supporting recruitment activities, ideally with exposure to managing end-to-end recruitment.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to ask questions and seek guidance when needed.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A genuine interest in getting out into the business, understanding how our operations work, and supporting our people where it matters.
Why you'll love working with us
We're not a traditional People & Capability team.
We're hands-on, approachable, and genuinely connected to the business. We believe the best people advice comes from understanding our operations, knowing our people, and building trusted relationships.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside managers across our infrastructure and industrial business, get involved in real people challenges, and continue developing your People & Capability expertise in a supportive team environment.
This is a role where you'll be encouraged to take ownership, build your confidence, and grow your capability while making a meaningful contribution to the business.
If you're ready to take the next step in your People & Capability career, get hands-on with employment relations, and become a trusted go-to person for managers, we'd love to hear from you.
