We are recruiting on behalf of a global logistics, supply chain, and freight forwarding powerhouse . Operating a massive international network, the company connects brands, retailers, and manufacturers worldwide with end-to-end global trade management. They are seeking a driven Ocean Import Specialist to join their growing ocean operations team.
Position Summary
The Ocean Import Specialist will manage end-to-end ocean import operational workflows, from booking inception through port arrival, customs clearance coordination, container drayage, and final delivery. This role requires strong communication skills, deep knowledge of maritime shipping documentation, and a focus on high-touch customer support.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End File Management: Manage A-to-Z ocean import operations for major retail, apparel, and consumer goods accounts across primary trade lanes (Asia-to-US focus).
Documentation & Compliance: Review, verify, and process arrival notices, Bills of Lading (MBL/HBL), commercial invoices, packing lists, and delivery orders.
Carrier & Terminal Coordination: Coordinate closely with steamship lines, ocean carriers, port terminals, drayage truckers, and customs brokers to track container status and ensure timely clearance.
Demurrage & Detention Mitigation: Proactively monitor shipment ETAs, port holds, and container pickup windows to prevent costly demurrage, storage, and detention fees.
Client Account Support: Act as the primary point of contact for assigned client accounts, delivering timely milestone updates, tracking reports, and prompt resolution of delivery exceptions.
Billing & Costing: Perform accurate file costing, approve vendor invoices, issue client billing statements, and ensure operational profitability on all assigned shipments.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on ocean import operational experience within a freight forwarder, NVOCC, or global logistics provider.
Software Skills: High proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and logistics software. CargoWise experience is a major plus.
Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of ocean freight operations (FCL/LCL), ocean rates, terminal procedures, drayage coordination, and basic customs compliance.
Problem-Solving & Urgency: Strong track record of resolving shipment delays, route adjustments, and port hold issues in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a client-first, solution-oriented mindset.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $65,000.00 - $75,000.00
