Position Overview
Rx relief is seeking a detail-oriented Per Diem Pharmacist to join our team near Gainesville, FL. This position focuses on retail pharmacy operations, dispensing, sterile compounding, and staff supervision.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required: Proven background in retail pharmacy.
Not Required: Prior experience in oncology or specialized cancer care.
Key Responsibilities
Prescription Verification & Dispensing
Accurately evaluate, prepare, and release prescription orders.
Perform thorough profile reviews to identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, or missing clinical information.
Confirm physician authorization and verify insurance coverage prior to medication preparation.
Perform exact dosage calculations, converting between metric and apothecary measurement systems as needed.
Compounding & Sterile Preparation
Mix and prepare IV solutions and specialty medications in strict compliance with department guidelines and OSHA safety standards.
Maintain cleanroom standards by sanitizing sterile hoods daily and between every compounding procedure.
Safely dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous compounding materials following established environmental protocols.
Technician Supervision & Workflow Management
Lead daily pharmacy technician workflows, reviewing their order entries, calculations, labeling, and routine facility checks.
Audit charges, inventory entries, and preparation accuracy to maintain quality control.
Patient Care & Clinical Consultation
Provide direct patient counseling on correct usage, potential side effects, and precautions regarding food or alcohol interactions.
Thoroughly document all patient consultations and review medical histories to screen for preexisting conditions.
Serve as an internal drug information resource for medical staff, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Participate in staff in-service training and educational programs.
Regulatory Compliance, Logging & Operations
Maintain total compliance with state/federal drug laws, including strict oversight of controlled substances and HIPAA patient privacy standards.
Conduct monthly expiration audits, track drug lot numbers, and log opened medication dates.
Monitor and record daily facility temperature logs (refrigeration and ambient).
Manage specialized inventory logs, including study protocol drugs and patient assistance medications.
Assist with purchasing, receiving, shelf restocking, billing, pricing, and departmental inventory management.
Participate in ongoing educational sessions with pharmaceutical representatives to stay current on new treatments.
