Job Title: Environmental Technician (Cylinder Project) Job Description
The Environmental Technician (Cylinder Project) consolidates, treats, stores, packs, transports, and disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with environmentally responsible and compliant practices, policies, and procedures. This role supports environmental cleanup and sustainability initiatives by safely handling hazardous materials, performing facility services, and maintaining detailed and accurate records to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Consolidate, treat, store, pack, transport, and dispose of hazardous waste in full compliance with environmental regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Inspect materials and perform material sorting to ensure proper identification, classification, and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
- Conduct wastewater treatment activities as directed, following established protocols and safety standards.
- Perform general facility services, including site cleanup and yard work, to maintain a clean, safe, and organized worksite.
- Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and on time, in accordance with applicable regulations and customer policies, practices, and procedures.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely to move, load, and unload materials and waste containers.
- Use and maintain hazardous waste protection gear, including respirators, hard hats, chemical-resistant gloves, and other personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
- Work outdoors in all seasonal and climate conditions, performing year-round environmental field work and site cleanup tasks.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to hazard communication and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support environmental cleanup, sustainability, and resource recovery initiatives at the plant.
- Participate in training and onboarding activities, including online modules and job shadowing, and apply learned procedures to work independently on site.
- Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management to support plant operations and environmental services.
Essential Skills
- Experience working outdoors during all seasons and in varying climate conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round and indoors in non-climate-controlled conditions while maintaining safety and productivity.
- Comfort with performing hazardous waste disposal tasks and working in an environmental field setting.
- Ability and willingness to wear company-issued personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.
- Ability to be clean shaven daily to ensure proper respirator mask fit.
- Prior experience operating a forklift or similar material-handling equipment.
- General labor and site cleanup experience in an industrial, environmental, or field setting.
- Visual acuity to read labels and documentation and depth perception to work safely around equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes and alarms to maintain situational awareness and safety.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual labor tasks throughout the shift.
- Comfort working outside in seasonal elements in a year-round outdoor position.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate records and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- HAZWOPER certification is a plus and strongly valued for this role.
- Experience working with hazardous waste, environmental services, or industrial cleanup is beneficial.
- Experience working in a plant or facility environment with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Interest in meaningful work that supports environmental cleanup, sustainability, and ecological transformation.
- Ability to adapt to a training environment that includes both online modules and on-the-job shadowing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance and safe work practices.
- Reliability and willingness to take initiative in a fast-paced, outdoor work setting.
Work Environment
This role is based at an environmental services plant and requires working outdoors year-round, regardless of weather conditions, including rain or shine. The position involves wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) for the entire shift, such as safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and a respirator, with a clean-shaven face required to ensure proper respirator fit. The plant employs approximately 75 environmental technicians, providing a team-based environment and flexibility for shift coverage when needed. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Training and onboarding combine online learning modules with job shadowing and can be somewhat unstructured; candidates should be comfortable with this approach and understand that they are paid during training. Onboarding typically takes 23 weeks before technicians work independently on site. The facility includes outdoor work areas and non-climate-controlled indoor spaces, and the culture emphasizes safety, sustainability, resource recovery, pollution reduction, and environmental stewardship, with opportunities for growth into broader plant and general management roles over time.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.25 - $23.25/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
