ABOUT CARVER FEDERAL SAVINGS BANK
Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Harlem, Carver Federal Savings Bank is the nation's largest and oldest continually Black-operated bank, a U.S. Treasury certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and federally designated Minority Depository Institution (MDI). For over 75 years, Carver has served the communities of Harlem, Brooklyn, and Queens with the conviction that access to quality financial services and real economic opportunity should not be determined by neighborhood or circumstance.
We reinvest more than 70 cents of every deposit dollar back into the communities we serve, 10 points above the CDFI standard. We hold an Outstanding rating on our Community Reinvestment Act examination. We are in a period of deliberate transformation, growing our institution, strengthening our team, and deepening our impact. The leaders who join Carver now will help determine what that next chapter looks like.
THE ROLE
The Relationship Banker is the face of Carver in every client interaction, the person who turns a first visit into a lasting relationship, a need into a solution, and a transaction into a conversation that builds trust over time.
At Carver, we do not hire order-takers. We hire advisors. The Relationship Banker is expected to know clients by name, understand their financial goals, and bring the full weight of what Carver offers to every conversation. This is a production role with real goals, real accountability, and a direct opportunity to make a measurable difference in the financial lives of the people Carver was built to serve.
The communities of Harlem, Brooklyn, and Queens deserve banking that feels personal, informed, and invested in their outcomes. The Relationship Banker is how that promise becomes reality on the floor of every branch, every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Relationship Development
- Build a dedicated book of client relationships by proactively reaching out, following up on appointments, and creating a service experience that clients remember and return for
- Conduct thorough financial needs assessments with every client, asking the right questions, listening with intention, and recommending products and services that genuinely fit their situation
- Own the relationship from the first conversation through account opening, first referral, next product, and every meaningful moment in between
- Deepen existing client relationships by regularly reviewing account activity, identifying unmet needs, and initiating outreach before clients have to ask for help
Sales Production and Goal Achievement
- Meet and exceed individually assigned production goals across new accounts, deposits, consumer lending referrals, digital enrollment, and products per household, with the understanding that goals exist to grow the business and the client relationship simultaneously
- Maintain a personal pipeline of prospect and client activity, tracking outreach, appointments, and follow-up so that no opportunity is overlooked
- Contribute to branch deposit growth targets by actively growing balances within the existing book and acquiring new households through referrals, community engagement, and personal outreach
- Refer clients to internal partners including consumer lending, mortgage and small business when their needs extend beyond the core deposit relationship, ensuring every referral is warm, informed, and followed up on
- Participate actively in branch sales huddles, contribute to the daily goal-setting conversation, and hold yourself accountable to the commitments made to the team
Advisory Approach and Product Knowledge
- Develop and maintain deep knowledge of Carver's full product suite including personal and business checking, savings, money market accounts, certificates of deposit, consumer loans, digital banking, and any new products introduced during the transformation
- Present solutions with confidence and clarity, explaining features and benefits in language that a client with no banking background can understand and act on
- Stay current on competitive rates, market conditions, and the financial products offered by key competitors in Carver's markets so that every client conversation is grounded in real knowledge
- Introduce clients to Carver's digital tools as a natural extension of the in-branch relationship, demonstrating mobile banking, online account access, and self-service features that make the client's life easier
Client Experience and Service Standards
- Deliver a client experience that is warm, professional, and consistent regardless of transaction type, account balance, or how long the client has been with Carver
- Resolve client concerns and complaints with urgency, sound judgment, and a commitment to keeping the relationship intact, escalating to the Branch Manager when the situation requires it
- Create intentional moments in every interaction that leave clients feeling genuinely valued, not processed, and connected to Carver's mission
Operational Compliance and Risk Awareness
- Complete all account opening, maintenance, and transaction documentation accurately and on time, maintaining an error-free record as a baseline expectation
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements including BSA/AML, OFAC, CRA, and Regulation E, with the understanding that compliance is a component of client protection
- Identify and escalate potential fraud, suspicious activity, or operational exceptions to the Branch Manager immediately
Team Contribution and Branch Partnership
- Support the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager by contributing to team production targets, participating in coaching conversations, and maintaining the energy and culture of the branch floor
- Support the development of Banking Associates by modeling the advisory standard and sharing product knowledge and client engagement techniques
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 1 to 3 years of retail banking, financial services, or client-facing sales experience with a demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding production goals
- Working knowledge of deposit products, consumer lending concepts, and digital banking tools
- Proven ability to build trust quickly, communicate clearly, and hold a client-first orientation under pressure
- Basic familiarity with BSA/AML requirements, OFAC screening, and Regulation E obligations
- NMLS registration required within 30 days of hire
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
Preferred
- Experience in a community bank, CDFI, or MDI environment
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, or other languages spoken across Harlem, Brooklyn, and Queens
WHY CARVER
The Relationship Banker at Carver is not filling a seat on the branch floor. They are building something. The clients served here have often been underserved or overlooked by institutions that did not see their value. Every account opened, every referral made, and every client who comes back because of the experience created is a direct expression of what Carver was built to do.
We offer a competitive total rewards package that includes performance-based incentive opportunity, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, and paid time off. What we also offer is harder to find: work that matters, in communities that feel it.
Carver Federal Savings Bank is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
