Engineering Manager

Job Title: Engineering Manager Maintenance and Facilities Job Description This role leads all maintenance and facility operations within a high-volume manufacturing plant to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. The Engineering Manager oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manages facility infrastructure and utilities, and directs a team of maintenance professionals to support plant objectives in safety, quality, productivity, and cost. The position reports directly to the Plant Manager and plays a key role in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across the facility. Responsibilities

- Lead all plant maintenance activities and provide direct leadership to maintenance personnel and skilled trades teams.
- Plan, implement, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Ensure all production equipment, utilities, HVAC systems, and facility infrastructure remain fully operational and reliable.
- Support production uptime by coordinating and overseeing timely emergency repair activities as issues arise.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction within the maintenance function.
- Lead and support renovation, upgrade, and facility improvement projects to enhance plant performance and capabilities.
- Develop and execute maintenance strategies that align with and support overall plant goals and operational targets.
- Oversee maintenance department budgets, including cost control, resource allocation, and capital planning.
- Manage departmental staffing levels, including hiring, scheduling, and performance management of maintenance personnel.
- Establish, track, and manage departmental performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure accountability and improvement.
- Lead root cause analysis and structured problem-solving efforts to address equipment failures and recurring issues.
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and internal company policies related to safety and maintenance.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the maintenance team and across all maintenance activities.
- Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports and maintenance staff to build technical capability and leadership within the team.
- Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Materials, Human Resources, and other departments to support plant performance and shared objectives.

Essential Skills

- Minimum 8+ years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in automotive, metals, assembly, or similar industrial manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and their maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience in machine repair and troubleshooting of production equipment.
- Proven expertise in developing and managing preventive maintenance programs.
- Proven expertise in developing and managing predictive maintenance programs.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems and their operation within an industrial facility.
- Strong understanding of facility infrastructure and utilities within a manufacturing plant.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated production equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA and industrial safety requirements applicable to manufacturing environments.
- Minimum 2 years of management experience leading maintenance teams and skilled trades personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to manage departmental KPIs, budgets, and staffing plans effectively.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.

- Experience working within Tier 1 automotive or high-volume industrial manufacturing environments.

Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing plant environment that produces metal stampings, assemblies, welded components, and other engineered products for major automotive customers. The facility operates with high-volume production equipment, automated systems, industrial electrical infrastructure, and HVAC systems that support continuous manufacturing operations. Work involves frequent presence on the plant floor, close interaction with production lines, and coordination with multiple departments to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The position requires adherence to OSHA and industrial safety standards, with a strong emphasis on safety practices, equipment reliability, and operational excellence. The work schedule aligns with plant operations and may require flexibility to support urgent maintenance needs and production uptime.

This is a Contract position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
