Structural Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team focused primarily on industrial projects , with additional opportunities in commercial, institutional, residential, and retrofit work. In this role, you'll design structural systems and foundations, perform engineering analysis, and work directly with clients and project teams to develop practical, constructible solutions. This position offers hands-on involvement from design through construction, along with mentorship from experienced engineers and exposure to a wide variety of challenging projects.

What You'll Do

- Design structural systems for industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities.
- Calculate structural loads and select appropriate structural members based on project requirements.
- Design shallow foundations, deep foundations, slab reinforcement, retaining structures, underground vaults, and tunnel systems.
- Develop custom structural details and connections to accommodate field conditions and project constraints.
- Prepare engineering calculations, reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Verify field conditions and ensure designs are practical and constructible.
- Support construction activities by responding to RFIs and resolving field issues.
- Review and interpret domestic and international building codes and design standards.
- Redline and review Revit-generated drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients throughout project execution.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline.
- EIT, PE, or SE certification.
- Experience in structural design and analysis.
- Strong understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structural systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

- Industrial facility design.
- Commercial or institutional building design.
- Complex cast-in-place concrete foundations and walls.
- Historical renovation and retrofit projects.
- Construction support and field engineering.

Software Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

- RISA 3D
- Revit
- Bluebeam
- Navisworks
- Microsoft Office Suite

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Coralville, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $49.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
