Job Title: Superintendent Healthcare, K-12, and Retail Renovation Projects Job Description
This Superintendent role focuses on managing small-scale renovation and maintenance projects within active healthcare facilities, K-12 schools, and retail environments. Typical projects include flooring replacements, finish updates, minor roof repairs, and other light construction work. The Superintendent coordinates day-to-day jobsite activities, ensures compliance with healthcare facility requirements, and serves as the primary point of contact between subcontractors, internal teams, and on-site staff. The role does not require heavy commercial construction experience, but it does require strong organization, clear communication, and a solid understanding of working in sensitive, occupied environments where safety, cleanliness, and minimal disruption are essential.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day jobsite operations for small-scale renovation and maintenance projects in active healthcare, K-12, and retail facilities.
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure work progresses safely and efficiently.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for healthcare staff, facilities teams, and internal project managers, maintaining professional and responsive communication.
- Ensure all work complies with healthcare facility requirements, including infection control, cleanliness, and safety protocols.
- Manage and document field activities, including daily reports, site logs, and other required field documentation.
- Review and understand construction documentation such as RFIs and submittals to support accurate and compliant execution of work.
- Monitor project progress, quality, and workmanship, and complete punch lists to ensure final deliverables meet expectations.
- Coordinate temporary enclosures, site setup, and protection measures to minimize disruption in occupied environments.
- Support and enforce safety standards on site, including adherence to OSHA requirements and healthcare-specific safety procedures.
- Perform light physical tasks as needed, such as setting up temporary barriers, assisting with minor labor tasks, and supporting site logistics.
- Collaborate closely with internal healthcare construction teams to align field execution with project goals and client expectations.
- Assist in resolving field issues promptly by communicating with project teams, subcontractors, and facility personnel.
- Maintain a professional, presentable presence on site that reflects well in hospital, clinical, and school settings.
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork while representing the organization on active projects.
Essential Skills
- 26 years of experience in a Superintendent role, preferably in commercial construction or related environments.
- Experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or light commercial renovations.
- Background working with or for a general contractor in commercial construction settings.
- Ability to manage punch lists and oversee completion of small-scale renovation tasks.
- Basic understanding of construction documentation, including RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and other field documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in active healthcare environments with sensitivity to patient care, cleanliness, and safety requirements.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple small projects or phases within occupied facilities.
- Clear and professional communication skills with clients, subcontractors, healthcare staff, and internal project teams.
- Professional and presentable demeanor appropriate for hospital, clinical, K-12, and retail settings.
- Willingness and ability to perform light physical work, including temporary enclosures, site setup, and minor labor tasks.
- Commitment to safety and familiarity with OSHA standards, supported by an OSHA 30 certification or the ability to work to that standard.

Work Environment
This role operates primarily on site at active, occupied healthcare facilities, with additional work in K-12 and retail environments. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of earlier or later days and occasional Saturday work depending on project needs. The work involves fast-paced but controlled renovation settings where safety, cleanliness, and coordination are top priorities. Projects include a mix of indoor renovation work and limited outdoor scope, such as minor roof repairs and exterior access. The Superintendent collaborates closely with hospital staff, facilities teams, subcontractors, and project managers, working in environments that require a professional, presentable appearance and respectful conduct in clinical and educational settings. The role combines supervisory responsibilities with hands-on field involvement, using standard construction tools, temporary protection systems, and documentation processes to deliver high-quality work while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portage, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
