About this role
An exciting opportunity has become available to join Swansea Council's Highways and Transportation Service as a Highways Claims Inspector.
Based within the Technical Support Team in Clydach, you will play a key role in investigating highway-related insurance claims, undertaking safety inspections of the adopted highway network, enforcing provisions of the Highways Act and, where required, representing the Council in legal proceedings.
Working closely with the Council's Insurance Team, you will carry out detailed investigations into third-party claims and undertake highway inspections in accordance with the Council's safety inspection procedures. You will assess risk, identify defects requiring attention and gather evidence to support the Council's statutory defence under Section 58 of the Highways Act 1980.
This varied role combines field-based inspections, technical assessment, legal compliance and stakeholder engagement. You will be required to make informed decisions, maintain accurate records and produce clear reports to support both insurance claims and highway maintenance activities.
The position involves extensive travel throughout Swansea and a significant amount of walking and cycling on the highway network. You must therefore be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to confidently undertake physically demanding site inspections.
A full valid driving licence is essential.
